Who says the Cobra has no low end? Weee!!! (Picture)

I recently went out this weekend (got rained out before eliminations, so I'll get back in free next time) for the Summit Super Series #9 at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wis. Just had my 4.10 put in a few days earlier (put 300 miles on the car since then.)

Since it was rained out, as I mentioned earlier I get to go back. I had a horrible first qualifying run missing second, HARD, (shift softly and I won't miss, I get nervous the first run and slam gears, great way to always miss.) So my dial-in was based off of a terrible first run and a second run where I decided I would quit before the 1/4, I put too much thought into "will 3rd gear make it to the end... NO... SHIFT... oops.). Now I can go out and get some practice on test-n-tune nights. Every bit of horrible driving is my fault, no excuses. Excuses won't make me better, hits will. :award

I had fun and couldn't believe the picture the photographer had of my car, I just have to share.

1.92 60', under 3000rpm, feathering clutch. (It was my second pass ever on the 4.10 - Lots of room for improvement!)
It's not much, but I never in my wildest dreams would have thought the car would launch like that. I could never pop a tire off the ground on my tricycle or little 10 speed, yet alone do it in a car. Hell, even if it never happens again, I love the picture, perfect timing.

It's probably the coolest thing in my life, I absolutely love this car and hobby. I know it's nothing special to most, but I just like pictures of these cars in general. The car is quick and only has a few modifcations done that I've listed numerous times; Really mild, conservative launch too. Those tires and gear are a ball.

I daily drive my car and love this 4.10. Highway RPMs are nearly the same as the 3.27 (at 65mph, the RPM is more noticeable at 80mph) and around town, it's just more fun.

Hopefully others have some cool shots from the strip of their 4.6L. I know someone else has a great shot of a 99+ on his burnout, I guess I'd just like to see more of this year of car. They're awesome. I'd also like some tips on launching. Good RPM, what 60' I should be looking at, etc. Learning is good for you, at least I hope so, becoming a teacher in the near future and all. :lala
I just ordered full length subframe connectors for some ... obvious reasons. :wink

As far as performance:

BBK Long Tube Headers
K&N FIPK2 Intake Kit
MT E/T Streets 275/40/17
Spin Tech Catback Exhaust w/ Off-Road H Pipe
MSD Wires / MSD Coil Packs
Pro 5.0 Shifter
FRPP 4.10 Gear and Pinion w/ FRPP 8.8" Rear End Girdle

Previous owner may have put in a better clutch, has that Steeda clutch cable and adjustment stuff (I forget the proper name.) Only thing I'm unsure on since I didn't do it / obviously won't pull it out to see. I never talked to the previous owner. Bought the car in May from a dealership with 55,000 on it.

I learned bracket is tough, some of these guys dial-in dead on to their back window. It is science, math, and racing all at once. Racing, sure... but math? :lala Intimidating, but with some practice I'll get there. Rain stopped me from going home dissapointed in myself from a round 1 elimination. It was like two free time runs is how I look at it. Now if I could justify the 1/4 tank of gas getting there for that.

Nice, I wish I had the video of mine yanking the 1-2 shift, it is a awsome feeling. Brackets with a stick are tough, do yourself a favor and buy a log book to note track temps, air temps, all weather data and what you run. This will help to dial in like the pro's and will make more consistant future runs. Good luck and nice work !!!!!

Wow! Ryan - congrats on the picture of your car. I'd kill to get a shot of me in mine doing that!

:award

Never underestimate what a mildy modded 4 valve can do...

When the weather is nice and you get some more seat time, let's see those times. My guess is you'd be around the 13 second mark, maybe lower with drag radials.

And I am with you fully - in that you do NOT see too many 96-98 model stangs at the track. Simply put, the newer 3valves and the aging 5liters are kicking our ass in terms of popularity. Oh well, their loss.

Yeah that is a sick Picture! almost as cool as my sig! lol

Anyway I agree that you rarely see SN95s. And you always see new edge and 05+ cars! That is why mine is going to be a beast! lol

Going to go out to Route 66 Raceway (I hate that track, but it is close and I don't feel like my usual twice a week 100 mile haul to the tracks I like) and see what I can do.

On that picture day I missed second in my first time run, and the picture was a great launch but I missed fourth. (I was debating if I could ride 3rd out, but decided I couldn't).

Trap speed was 93 miles an hour but with a 13.72 E/T. For instance, a nice run on my stock 3.27 was a 13.73 E/T at 101. I've also had 104mph runs before I had an intake, etc.

Looking at just the numbers and looking at my driving ability the car has a lot of room to improve. There is that magic number everyone always shoots for and mine is a 12.9x. Will I pull it consistant? No, weather and track depending, but I just once want to see the 12.xx so I can say I run a 12 second car.

My 60' with that shot was a 1.92. The best I could pull on the 3.27 was a 2.0 flat consistant, even that I think I can lower by at LEAST a tenth. I'm launching around 2500 rpm feathering the clutch out. Third yellow, slam the gas and feather. I am gladly looking for launch recommendations from others with 4.10 Cobras, learning is important.
