Take them to a machine shop and have them looked over. You just want to look for any burnt valves and make sure the sparkplug threads holes are not stripped.

Buying a used head is safe, you should always have the trued/ machined on the cylinder head face. I always install 8 thread inserts on every modular 2 valve head I port, I would haye to have someone call and say "I just blew out a plug" after spending 500-1000 for work I have done. It is just a safety thing, I guees I'm picky about the little things.

I would recomend asking if you can take em to a machine shop and have them looked over real quick, but if they are good, jump all over it. That is a great price!
