Misfire question....

Ok question for all you cobra geniusses out of there.... alot of the time when i get into the throttle hard....when i go to shift i hear this popping noise from my exhaust as the rpms drop its pretty loud too like miniature backfires......while it's Idling i can hear this soft "pmmf" sound comming from the exhause every few seconds...... am I running rich or lean?, maybe need to change plug wires? timing? hell i dunno....but it irritates me and i wanna fix it.....any help would be great!!!

By the way once it gets good and warmed up it doesnt do it nearly as bad

i'm not a cobra genuis either but I have a 4.6L GT and mine does the same thing. I have a full dual 3.5" SLP loudmouth exhaust system and you can hear everything that comes out.. I think it's normal actually .. i've always noticed it but never thought much of it.

If you want i can give you the email address to my buddy and his 1998 Cobra that the BOSCH 4's that he put in....... piece of the plug broke off and now he doesnt have the car anymore. They are a real shitty plug. Stick to Motorcraft plugs. Or switch to a Denso/NGK plug. Single tip and you will be fine.

So my suggestions..... Replace plugs with what we have suggested. Replace the wires and coil packs. Also if you havent already run a bottle of "seafoam" through youre pcv system. Clean that snake right out.

http://www.performancedistributors.com/4.6ignition.htm

thats what i suggest... i run them and i gained .2 in the 1/4.

I will and yeah i have run 2 bottles of seafoam through my car...... dont think it had ever been done until 119k miles..... had just as much smoke billow out the last time as i did the first time so im thinkin i prolly need to do it a couple more times..... unless it will hurt it to keep doin that. I want to just tear into it and clean my imrc's while i get my heads ported but then again i have no experience tearing into this engine and i dont wanna screw anything up....plus i live in harrison arkansas where there is no where to get anything done plus i work 80+ hrs a week so time is an issue aswell

P.S. Never become an army recruiter..........I did and it sucks.....dont get me wrong the army is great but recruiting BLOWS....

i would suspect this is the culprit, would change over to autolites asap! a friend of mine put a set of bosch's on his girlfriends v6, next thing you know misfire and then started throwing codes. changed the plugs and all was fixed!

yeah i had a misfire prob for a while actually turned out to be my coil boots allowing moisture to get in which in turn caused corrosion and a bad connection, and i would also change to the NGK plugs, ive had no issues with mine since i put em in.

1999 GT and 1997 Cobra = 2 different ignition systems. But yes alot of times the coils on the COP system had water in the boots and corrode.
