it's your gear ratio.

by changing to a 4:10 gear it will make your car accelerate quicker

u can go to a tranni shop and/or depending on ur local shops......

some reg mechanics won't even touch a rear end...they have it sent out, and at the same time some will do it. U need to price around ur area and see whats up.

I was supposed to have mine done today but it got bumped to Friday. It's only costing my 400 per car....

your better off buying the gears from a vendor here.

as far as a shop is concerned I would take it to a performance shop that deals with gear swaps all the time.

a rear end on a car has to be put in perfectly.

dealerships can do it also, dont be affraid to price the install at a dealership, they arent as high as you would think a dealership would be. Atleast not at ours. We do them all the time. Seems the explorer IRS has some bad gear sets from the factory.

Ask how much for a ring and pinion install, tell whoever you use ya just want the labor price. And do like HMUSN said buy from a vendor.

Damn I could make a killing installing gear sets if you guys were near me. Doesnt take long and isnt hard either.

think he meant 3.90s, but IMHO 3.90s - 4.10s isnt worth the money, they arent that far apart from each other to tell any differance really.

I heard that upgrading your gears to 4:10 or 3:90's will shorten the life of your car considerably.

Well so will most any mod you do to your car. Tell that guy that I said, driving your car, WILL shorten the life of your car and especially the tires. That just seems like a retarded statement to me.

i don't think thats true entirely....

i've seen a modded 4.6, properly maintained, run for almost 300k.

Had full bolt ons, and may or maynot of had a cam.

Yeah maintained correctly even with parts on them it can run a long time, But I agree with Ujslost on this one! I mean comon sure you will be in the higher RPMs easier, but if you can control it it will be fine!

i sometimes forget that not everybody has that basic common sense thing when it comes to taking care of cars and driving them properly.

I had one friend who took reall good care of his car, just drove it too hard.....needless to say he started out with a 90fox droptop, now he's macking a 88lx hatch........that he drives to hard too....
