my car has 144k on it i was wondering if it would be worth it to do a cam and pi swap or just do bolt ons and beat the piss out of it till it shits the bed and just swap it out.

All the bolt ons in the world will not make as much power as the PI swap. All the money you would spend for "full bolt ons" would be more than a swap if you shop right.

144k isnt a lot of miles on these cars if the motor is maintained properly and isnt spun to 6k rpm everyday. Ive had my engine apart at 92k and the pistons/sleeves look brand new with the exception of some carbon deposits.

Do the swap ,change your oil regularly and drive it for another 50k.

Even if he got ripped off with a PI swap he'd still spend more on full bolt ons....

Unless he does aftermarket cams n heads he ain't ever gonna have an edge on a PI stang

I have PI heads with VT cams, and Ill walk any stock 99-04 on the street. If he did only PI components he would have an edge in power over a 99-04 with his pistons.

Dont forget about the C/R difference in a swapped 96-98 .Extra power.

Man I love this set-up .The cams sound great when idling and souns like war when accelerating . I get looks and comments all the time. Especially with the O/R H and Flows. Im very happy with it . The only suggestion i would make is get the blower cams if you think you might S/C it in thr future. Mine are N/A.

You really need the gears with these cams and a GOOD tune to dial them in right. But you can clearly see in my sig how much power they bring. I dont remember how much of a bump it is,but it does give a decent edge. But the cams is where the big numbers come in.

Yeah, I read Matt's reply and I was like WTF!?? lol. Those thing look sick by the way dude! Let's get some sizes and prices if you don't mind...

96gtponyred - Do the swap! Everyone that's chimed in so far really knows their shit especially about PI swaps. I got everything for mine and will be doing it shortly. It makes your car really wake up! It will be better in the long run.

I will definately be posting it up here and asking ALOT of questions. And I know I'll need pointers. As a side note, I don't know if anyone has checked out the Poweradders section...but I have a turbo kit going in about a month after the PI swap so that will be fun
I plan on doing write ups on both...And wait until you see how much this turbo kit costs...everyone will be boosting after that...

Sorry to get off topic....96gtponyred...If you need a "shopping list" let me know.. I posted a complete list of what all is needed for the swap as well as some other people's input also and some suggested other parts....
