97-98 cobra

i know that the 98 and the termi's have similar engines, but what mods are needed to turn out close to the same power as the termi's?? i'm sure the pistons and rotating assemblies are different, but what will i have to replace?? and will it ever be even close to a termi after i'm done? or would u guys think that would just be to much money?? i want to buy a 97-98 cobra when i come back from deployment and i'm looking at different things to do. thanks.

you will need to forge it and strap on a blower.

that will get you where a stock terminator is.

The 98 doesn't have a Teksid block?

I always thought:

1996 - Love oil.
1997 - Same thing as 1996, but with updated cooling, same block. Doesn't love oil.
1998 - Same as 1997, no clock on the dash.

However, I do see 1998 Cobras listed different for parts and such sometimes, what really is the difference?

Also, forge and supercharge.

They do make 305 horse and actually, i don't know if it applies to the '98 cobra, ford underated the hp on the cobra on newer models for sure.

One difference between the '99-04 GT and '96-'98 Cobra is the compression ratio. 9.85:1 and 9.4:1 respectively.

The big difference is that that year Cobra's have a 4 valve DOHC while the GT's have a 2 valve SOHC...that's where the extra horse is being netted...

1 a 98 Cobra is not lighter then a 99GT
2 same rear gear ratio
3 a 99gt runs 14.1 where as a cobra should run 13.7-13.8

a 45 hp diff and 100lbs is about 4 tenths of a second.....

compression ratios are different! I feel that a cobra 96-98 is right about the same as a PI GT i mean i have never seen a cobra stock run a 13.9

thats weak.......and that can be due to age....that car should only dyno at like 260 265.......

99+ dyno out at like 225-235

the older 4v's are capable of a lot of power, just have to build them. they flow really well, just have the down fall of the imrc plates. a friend of mine has a 98 cobra and was considering a motor swap, but changed his mind after seeing what the c-head 4v's can actually do.

in theory, seeing as a mustang with proper gearing, good tires, and a good launch + driver should go 12s with 240 rwhp, a cobra should be able to do the same, again with a good driver ofcourse. but most 99-04 owners run about 14.2-14.5 @ 97-101 and the cobra guys run 13.7-14.2 @101-103, these times are with average drivers.

but if u where to put them up against eachother on the street, it could easily play as a n equalizer and it would be a drivers race
