Cams...

So my gears are in, i ordered the remaining parts for my intake swap, and am scheduled to do it next sunday, the 16th.

But that means i can start buying my next mod. Cams. I need to know what I'm going to need parts wise. Besides the cams themselves, what am i going to need for these to work properly in my NPI heads? I'm pretty much a novice in this field, so i might need a little help understanding the terms ur using.

As of right now, my future mods are as follows.......Accufab 70mm tb/plenum, underdrive pulleys, CAI, screamin demon coild n wires, and a tuner, haven't decided which one yet.

what cams would go good with these mods+PI intake and 4.10's?
what am i going to need parts wise to make everything work in NPI heads?
I've heard something about clearance issues with stage 2 set ups, can someone elabirate?

If you run a crower offset valve spring retainer you can run a .550" lift cam. You can order any grind cam with a lower lift, find a gring you like and have a custom lift grind made. Depending on where you want your power range will make or break the combo.

If you wish to run over a .540" lift cam. If you want you could always order a custom grind that will not require a offset retainer. Npi heads are limited to around .542 " lift before interference issues come into effect. You can have machine work done to accept the larger lift or run an offset retainer. The Npi heads like high lift so one or the other if you want to take advantage of what the npi head has to offer.

A offset retainer is used to create more room between itself and the valve seal allowing a higher lift cam to be used. Do you need them ? Only if you want to run an aftermarket cam with more than .540 lift.

where can i obtain an offset retainer?

i've been looking at COMP CAMS FORD 4.6/5.4 SOHC XE 270 CAMSHAFTS

do i need to match anything up specific with the cams and valve springs?

anyone have any recommendations on what i should use with these cams?

so i was looking at these after i saw ur suggestion matty

stage 2's

am i still going to need an offset retainer with these even though there emant for NPI?

and when they say it must be tuned...can i get away with a handheld or am i gonna need a dynotune? i don't wanna sped big bucks on custom tuning only to have to retune it.

dyno for any after market cam

and well yes u will have to run a offset retainer

the reason i suggest the NPI crowers is because they dont need off set retainers if i am not mistaken!

The 270's are known to make good power however take what you read with a grain of salt. Most of the articles are paid for by the producers of the product, do you honestly believe they would say their parts lack power ?

Honestly it takes a healthy valvetrain to support the amount of lift you would want to throw at a Npi head. I machine the heads and guides to support the higher lift cams rather than doing the retainers. I also have to run a different valve seal to get reach the lift numbers I prefer. I have a set running a .638" lift cam on a 12:1 motor for a buddies car.

also i plan to drive mine to the dyno, it should be safe as long as u dont get in the trottle and dont have PTV. And witht eh crower stage 2 NPI PTV will be non existant

you dont have to dyno it, u can just datalog it with your tuner, but if you have no experience with any kind of tuning equipment, get it on the dyno. o0o and go meet the dyno guy ahead of time, get to know him and his shop a little bit better...
