Mustang problem

1998 ford mustang gt 5 speed Ok so this morning I was driving my mustang to school. When i noticed the car like surges at like 2500 rpm kinda like when your in to high of a gear. Yesterday I was working around the motor I cleaned the battery cables and cleaned the engine. It doesent surge with out power. But when I put power on I can feel it surge. If anyone could help it would be great Since I just bought the car two weeks ago. And have stuck a bunch of money into it already with brakes tires and rims. And I still cant get the power outlet and cigarrette lighter to work thanks mike.

Man your really goin to have to describe it to get a good response. By sure do you mean it accelerates rapidly or??? you say you put power on and it surges, that seems normal to me. It should go when you hit the go petal. lol just see if you can describe it better and well try to help.
