Pi Cams vs. NPI cams

Several of the cars on the MM&FF site run Ported and Polished PI heads but run after market NPI cams. Does anyone know why?

But is there any real reason. I heard it has to do with longer duration. I guess thats possible but I would think that an after market cam would have the longest duration they could get anyways along with the larger lobe size. But I don't know.

<<<<<From a headporters view ; the air speed stalls on the P.I head around .500" lift (.480" to be exact). Taking the lift beyond that in some cases will cause a lose of power depending on the combo. Every combo requires a different cam to see peak potenetial....

ptv issues also. the npi cars have less dish in the pistons giving higher compression and clearance issues.

I know that you can do a straight swap from NPI heads to PI heads. with the intake and cams and everything. But the question I have is, will I get more power with the PI cam than the NPI one. I think so, but what about with a stage 2 head?

The dish is not an issue, the valves hit the outer 3rd of the piston when PTV occures. Lift will not determine PTV as the valves are open fully near BDC, overlap is more of a concern.

Note: piston to valve interference usually occurs during the first .200" of lift.

A ported head will lead to better performance when done correctly and with the proper supporting mods.

and what kind of supporting mods are those?
also, what kind of pistons would i need if i wanted to drop the compression of my engine after my PI swap
aannnnd, would it be better to drop the compression after the PI swap or just leave it how it is?

SO i guess, that you can use either in a NPI engine is what your saying. Just to make sure the cam you get will not have any PTV issues. I just want to know if I'll make more power with a NPI stage 2 or a PI Stage 2. Since they are PI heads and stock PI cams do more than PI cams, the Stage 2 PI cams would be best. Right?
