WITCH HEADS TO BUY??

Hi every one my name is mike and i drive a '96 Mustang GT, its a 4.6 SOHC V8. I got this car about a month ago and I'm trying to add some modds. I was thinking of making my mustang into DOHC but I have no idea which heads would be the best for this model and would add the most power. So if anyone has any sugestions please help me.
THANK YOU.

welcome to the forums.

It will cost you more to make your car a DOHC than it would to just buy a crate engine.

I suggest a pi swap or looking into patriot heads.

the DOHC heads?

it wouldn't matter..

you need a bunch of other shit including drilling into your block to make them work..

heads made for your car.. around 15 hundred or so.

Yeah, why no Patriot? I am planning on getting a set of PI heads ported here soon, but I want to know, why not patriot? Those were the ones I was looking in to if I were to buy CNC machined.

You must not get around much,LOL. I on the average once a week there is a "my patriot heads suck" thread on one of the message boards. They bought 1000's of blemed castings from Ford, they were so bad Ford would not use them. Sorry, if it were me personally buying heads I would not buy them from a company that has had a bad reputaion. That couple hundred dollars you save buying possible junk isn't worth the cost of a new engine. I know a few LSX guys that have had troubles, I have also read about jeep guys having simular issues.

I have spoke to Gunnar several times and met him once, he is a good guy and stand behind product. That still does not cover the costs people have to pay ie; gaskets, down time, other broken or worn parts and labor.

Example, when you call a company and ask the about numbers and all they can give are cfm.......RUN !!!!!!!

The way the business should be done is port/build the head to suit the combo, not just a single program for everyone.

well in that case do you think it would be more advantagous to but a set of PI heads have them rebuilt with all new parts; springs, valves, retainers, etc.... custom port and get a custom ground cam?

Will a set of custom ground heads be able to flow as well as the CNC jobs? I assume it depends on the experiance of the porter, but, I want to know what the chances are the port job from an experianced local would be as good as a stage 2 job from Patriot (quality aside).

Here is how I view it, not trying to advertise. I spend hours working on a combo for my customers, looking for evey nitch of power to be found.

I have a cnc guy I deal with and have 8 different programs between P.I and NPI heads. I get them done cheap, this is just to get them close and saves me a ton of time hand porting. I lose a little money but save a ton of time.

You want power you have to pay, there is no way around it. You can't compare a custom set of heads to any "stage" (ricerism). There are little things that add up on a combo, heads alone are not always the big issue on a modular. To often people refer to the old days where there was a ton of power to had from just simple porting, now the manufacturers (factory) put this into mind for EPA standards.

well think about it.........how much power does a 99+ GT have? 260

a NPI GT has 215-225.......and all a PI swap is taking the top half of a 99+ and putting it on the bottom half of a 96-98.

See where I'm goin with this?
