Who's got Big Balls when if comes to PI Swaps

I'm swapping out the intake to my 96 with an updated PI intake. I would like to know how long u guys waited before starting the car up after u put the PI intake on the NPI heads?

Ok can you see the sorry excuse for a black circle right to the left of the thermostat housing? That is where he should drill and tap.

Damn my bad bro I waited right at 24 hours before starting mine up. I couldn't really take a chance of screwing something up. I would wait at LEAST 18 to 20 hours before starting it up just to be safe. If you have balls like watermelons, start it right up.

3/8 x 18 pipe thread this came from Casper's PI swap write up. I was lucky enough to buy mine already taped.

You really need to wait because you have to give the silicone time to cure good enough to hold up against all the pressure. If you don't you could possibly blow the fabbed gasket and have to start all over again.

Since you already have a PI, you may not know this and if you do, please don't take offense. For the PI intake to work on the NPI heads, you have to make a small bead of silicone to create a makeshift gasket along the front left and rear right intake ports. If you don't do this, you will end up with a major coolant leak. The PI gaskets don't perfectly match up to the NPI ports and leaves a small gap there.

im surprised nobody has made an outright gasket that just fits the intake its been 8 years since this intake has been out maybe 4 since someone has figured out you could swap it to a 96-98, and no gasket, i know livernois makes an adapter plate but for 300 bucks extra.. i mean come on now, if i had the materials i would patent this bigtime

Yeah if I had some way of making a PI/NPI gasket, I would be rich!!!! But hey someone with much more resources and knowledge than myself will come up with it one day. Until then, we will be making our own silicone gaskets.

The sad thing is they are only mismatched in those 2 spots. The rest of the gasket matches up fine.

Yeah I agree. Its just one of those things that if you want it bad enough you just take a chance of something going wrong. I think as long as you do everything right, its pretty much safe. I myself don't really run my car hard very often since it's my dd so I'm not too worried about it. Others who may run their car hard often may want to wait and do the full swap.

That is what I say and I have heard quite a few others say the same. I think it is just safer for you if you let it sit overnight so the silicone can dry really good. Of course, if you really like going through the trouble of taking it apart, go for it. Personally, I was scared to start it within 20 hours because it was a pain in the ars to take apart to begin with.

thats what my buddy was saying. Were doing it at his dealership and we only have 6 hours where we can get into the shop. We didn't want his boss to come in on monday and see my car in the shop.

I think were gonna wind up just pushing her out into the back of the lot.

Yeah that would suck!!! Can we say ass chewing... Good luck with your swap man. It definately makes the car pull alot harder. I noticed a big difference above 3k. Be careful with it the first few times you take it out though. You gotta make sure the makeshift gasket holds. I ran mine easy the first time and checked for fluid leaks. Let it cool off then took it out again. Took it to about 3k and did the same... let it sit, check for leaks, cool off. Then take it out and beat on it pretty good. Don't forget to re-tighten everything after it cools off. You'll see the difference.
