Spec stage 1 clutch

I recently installed a spec stage 1 clutch in my 97 GT. Had the flywheel resurfaced and was very careful not to get grease on any clutch component. (also used brake kleen with no cfcs to clean with) From the day it was installed there has been a chattering or grabbing as you may call it. It shakes the entire drivetrain and car. We have inspected motor mounts and trans mounts all look ok. It does it only when you take of and easing off clutch. We can put the parking break on and ease out on the clutch and it will sit there and just grab and shake. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening? We are clueless. Anyone else out there with a spec clutch with similar problems?

I'm guessin about 800+
Most of them are highway but I know Im over the limit as far as what spec recommends stop and go. Could it be the plastic quadrant?

Need to ask Twist2go about this. He owns his own tranny shop.

Its the spec clutch. My dyno guy just yesterday was dealing with that same problem on a 03' terminator cobra. The owner didnt know what it was so he brought it in to get it looked at. Well sure enough there was chattering in first and second. The clutch he had was a stage 3. Second one in two years.

All I know is its annoying. If I bought a firewall adjuster, new cable, and a quadrant would it help? I thought maybe adjusting the cable might change how it releases.

Sorry to say this but your probably gonna have to replace the clutch in order to get rid of the chattering. My dyno guy told me that he tried literally everything even resurfacing the flywheel but the clutch keeps chattering.

Installed end of august. I know it has to be over a 1000 miles. Most of those were highway miles although. I hit some stop and go along the way. I sat out in my drive way one night for about 10 minutes just taking off to try and fix it lol.

I will say that the clutch is awesome when powershifting through the gears. I see a big difference between it and my stock one in that dept.

Well thats the prob man. The first 500 miles are crutial with a spec clutch on break in. They require a minimum of 500 miles of city stop and go driving to heat the clutch to properly break it in. Highway will not break it in.

I just read a post on a mazda forumn and the guy said he called spec and they said that you have to have the flywheel resurfaced. (which i did) But it must be ground and not laithed. I believe mine was laithed, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what the different machines look like. I know it went into a tub type thing and I didnt get a good look but it looked like a drill bit shaved the flywheel as it turned. (I know they referred to it as turning the flywheel) I swear it thats my problem screw spec for not clarifying that in their directions in box. Thanks
