1996 gt seat question

Im looking at getting a 1996 gt that has 108,000 miles. Only down side is that im 6'5 and found it hard to sit nicely in the seats while i test drove it. My question is can the seat bracket be moved back? I head that there is a second set of holes that you can move te seat back into and have more room. thanks for your help.

First off, Welcome to MM... This is a great site to ask any questions you may have.

I have heard that there is some way to get more leg room, either by moving the seat back or extending the tracks. I'm not positive on this but I'm sure someone who is more knowledgable than myself can give you a better answer. Try using our search engine on here and see what you can come up with.

I am 6'3 and i have problems as well. They do make track extenders for our cars, i just havent bought them. It also takes some searching around to find them. My dad is 6'6" and he barely fits wat soever and he cant drive it because his knee goes in between the steering wheel and the door so it wont close!

i read a site that says there is another set of holes on the underside of the seat and all you would need to do is drill a new set of holes in the bracket. Soon as i can im gunna go to a place and see how much a custom track would cost.

Just unbolt your stock brackets from the floor pan. And then drill new holes and rebolt them farther back. I had to do the same when installing my bucket seats. It's REALLY easy! No need to buy new tracks and install a bunch of crap. It's only 4 bolts per side!

kinda off topic but here it goes
what do u guys do for a powerseat motor that wont move the seat (in any direction, u name it it wont move, its scooted all the way forward and im 6ft.) ive already replaced fuses. u guys think its the tracks? is there anyway i could just ditch the powerseat and install manual seat racks for cheap? anyways, if u guys have any idea where i could get the parts to fix the issue please post a link.

Probably the little motor. So you hear it trying to pull or push?? Or do you hit the button and it doesn't make a sound? I would see how much a replacement would cost from a local jumk yard. If you want to go manual, just order/find the passenger side manual tracks and install them. They are both the same size. You should be fine.

The motor is probably blown. Going to a manual rack will actually knock about 18-22lbs off your car also. I don't know if you have ever seen the motorized rack, but that thing is a beast!

is it easy to do? the motor is like 130 at the salvage yard, the manual is only like 35, and im sick of the motor being blown...

I've never replaced a motor before. I coun't imagine it being too hard...just make the new one look like the old one. But For that price I would go with the manual...less worries you know? Just be careful, my floorboard screws were a biatch to get out! I had to use an impact wrench.

No need to buy special aftermarket shit for leg room.

Take your seat out of the car, remove the tracks, you will see in the bottom of the seat frame there are more holes you can relocate the tracks to. I have seen some that are already tapped, and I have seen them drilled but not tapped, I have recently aquired a set that had the holes on one seat frame and just needed tapped, the other seat frame had a place for the hole. I had to drill and tap that hole. Either way, you can always use a lock nut and bolt if ya cant tap it.
