01 cobra shortblock in my 96 GT
a buddy of mine wants to sell me his 01 cobra short block with 40k miles on it for $600. What all would it take to get this block in my 96 GT? I was thinking prob all the lil stuff like:
water pump timing chain and cover Alternator pulleys I am not too knowledgeable on trannys and clutches and pressure plates and all that. i have never taken one out or switched it out. I am assuming that i will need a new pressure plate, tranny all that crap.... what all am i missing? is it really worth it to do this swap?

If it was complete motor, that would be one thing. Just the block your gonna drop some cash.

is it worth it since i can get the short block so cheap? I already have a top end...but i need a new forged bottom end. would i be better just going with DSS or somthing like that?

DSS would be alot more than that price wise...but the 01 cobra bottom end isnt much stronger than yours, better off grabbing something for maybe 2x that price and get somthing stout, low mileage 03/04 motor or get your current block rebuilt at a local shop for a little more.

you could get that and put a good set of rods and pistions and still be cheaper than an aftermarket set up and be good for a whole lot of power too
