Overdrive Question?

OK, my 98 GT has this overdrive button. WHat does this thing do?

I have an automatic, if that means anything. I had it off one time and when I was going 65 back to the house it sounded louder. Like it needed to go faster or something, IDK. Is it better to have it off or what?

I ended up turning it on at the light though. THanks.

its pretty much your 4th gear or "overdrive gear" you want to leave it on for everyday purposes but when its race time turn that baby off

+1 to all that. Yeah switch it off at start, then when u make it through that third gear, turn it on to go into the fourth gear.

The previous owner had it installed right before I bought the car so I don't know. I think it ain't cheap to have put on, but it wouldn't be hard to put together I don't think. THe hood is the only part I don't know how to do.( never really checked it out )
