My personal mod thread :D
Hey all,
So i made it to the strip this week 99.9% stock, first run ever at a drag strip. 15.2 sec at 91mph. No doubt could get better with more time (and better tires), but hey, why not start modding now? =D Proved to dad I kinda know what I'm doing behind the wheel (see end of video) so he gave me the OK to do whatever I want to my car I just ordered the PI intake kit off ebay from custom mustangs of florida... Comes with custom gaskets and the sensor hole already drilled and tapped (cause I'm lazy).... and instructions (wohoo!). So, I was thinking since I'm going to have to take all the intake stuff off anyway, if it would be wise to go ahead and get a CAI and put it on at the same time? What about the tb and plenum? Are off brand CAI's just as good as those from, say, BBK or JLT? Thanks all!

Generic cai's are equivalent to most, but not JLT. The JLT is in a league of its own!!

Haha, again, first run
There were people with worse reaction times with mine, believe it or not. Some bloke in a mach 1 stalled it during his burn out, and proceeded to sit at the line for .89 seconds before moseying on down the strip. So is the JLT worth the extra $130? And will the butt-accelerometer feel a difference w/ the plenum and tb? Thanks for answering my noobish questions.Oh, and matt, if you haven't yet been to the track, it is awesome fun |

no offense at all.. just constructive criticism... but take your car out on some back roads and work on launching and shifting. with a short shifter you should be shifting faster than that. i know you new so thats why im sayin.. i used to be like that when i had my 97 gt. all it had done to it wes no mufflers with stock cats and i went from a 15.3 to a 14.9 just by getting some experience in shifting. gears is probably the most beneficial thing you can put on your car right now. 3.73s if you are gonna spray it or supercharge it. 4.10s if not. that would drop you anywhere between .3-.6 of a sec. jlt cai is the sex. yes its worth the extra money too...

to answer the questions:
the 15.2 run was made when it was maybe 80 degrees out, and sacramento is 27 feet above sea level and no offense taken. i can use criticism. i live out in the country. nothing but empty straight roads out here. i've had some practice shifting quickly, but not as much launching. i wanna save my tires =P i have no idea what brand my shifter is. i just have this problem that if I shift too fast, it grinds a lil bit (you can hear it in the 1-2 shift on the last run in the video). i think it's cause i dont have the clutch pushed in all the way by the time i'm shifting back into gear, but i dont know. i'm only now starting to get into the habit of keeping my foot touching the accelerator between shifts... before i'd take it a good 1-2" off. and it's good if that's what my car's supposed to run keep in mind i'm 16 and have never been to a track. and i've only been driving stick since february. my very first ever track run was 15.2... got slower after that due to crappy launches. odd eh?so: $20 ebay cold air intake, or $200 jlt intake? will i feel a difference between the two? |
