2nd Gear

Okay, I know this is the "engine" category, but oh well. When I'm casually driving my 96' GT I'm fine (aka shifting into 2nd gear is fine). But when I get on it and I want to throw it into 2nd for speed shifting and racing, it grinds. I'm thinking it has something to do with the 2nd gear syncronizer. I might need a new one. But I was also thinking that it just might need new tranny fluid. Any ideas, suggestions, concerns???

can't give you any technical advice, but be sure you've got the clutch all the way in when you're jamming into the next gear, heh. i noticed that too but then realized it was because my foot was already on its way back out of the clutch before i had put it all the way into gear.

do you have a aftermarket shifter? sometimes if you dont adjust them just right 2nd n 3rd can grind. also when your racing it is easy to not fully engauge the glutch. when racing you think your throwing it into gear the same time your clutching but you might be putting it into gear a little to late or soon. and yes it could also be the syncro... but theres a lot that can be the cause. hope this helps!
