Auto for Auto swap ?s

alright so if i buy a built automatic transmission can i just drop the one i have now, bolt this one up and go? or how's that process go?

also, i'm looking at the Competition one on this website http://www.performanceautomatic.com/transmissions.htm
i have an auto 98 GT. is it AOD or AODE?

and one last thing, what's it mean by "Full Manual Shift Control" under the Comp's features?

it has a manual valve body so you can shift it ur self with out a cclutch. And I'd you get an AOD or an AODE it should just unbolt and rebolt.

awesome. and how does that Manual Valve Body deal work? if it's the kind i'm thinking of, i saw a tranny like that on Sean Highland's website (i think) for like 15grand and there's no way i'm paying for that much

huh? to tell you the truth, i'm not sure what i want right now. i've been reading up on Auto trannies for the past 3 hours. oh and my car is already an auto by the way.

someone please explain what stall speeds mean as well what stall means. also, if i was to buy a torque converter right now, what stall speeds should i look for among other things. my soon to be mods will be full PI swap, 3.73s, and tune. possibly some exhaust work

Stay with your auto, with a shift kit/new manual valve body the aode can handle close to 600 hp (from what I've hear from various magazines and other people) Personally I'm looking at the trans-go shift kit... although I haven't really looked up prices yet. You would have to take apart your tranny but it'd be worth it... or you could drop around 2,400 to buy a lentech aode or drop 2100-2200 to buy a raptor aode. Both good choices... personally I would rather go with lentech though... bigger following and more history.

I myself though.... am going to get my valve body worked on or work on it myself with the trans-go kit (it includes a very in depth video apparently) it's your choice though.

or you could make it a race car with a sequential gearbox and go deaf by the time you turn 40... lol

It's pretty much a kit to rebuild your manual valve body in other words, couple pieces here and there, drill a hole or two... poof, better firmer quicker shifts (without damaging effects that a electronic tuner may have)

Like I said though you will have to open up your tranny drop the valve body out... clean it to where you can work on it... drill holes and such, replace a couple things and put it back in and replace tranny fluid. Lots of work! But like I did say before... detailed video guide with it. and from what I've heard it's the safest way to do it (like I said before electronic shift tuning can cause too much heat buildup which can quickly destroy a tranny)

Either way though I would get a transmission cooler if your planning on over 400 ponies and build your rear end too

You will also be able to shift your auto completely like a manual.... inestead of waiting a second or two for the computer to shift it'll shift when you shift.

Among things like manual shift cabability you will also be able to keep your transmission longer due to reduced wear on parts and reduced heat.

Wish i would have actually bought this just now instead of sub-frame connectors I bought an hour ago lol

autos are no fun. It takes more skill to race a manual. But if I were to buy a car to build for a race car it would be an auto or I would do a C4.

lol, i agree it takes more skill to drive manual but with consisten runs with an auto it's pretty attractive and for me to get a TKO swap, it would run me about $4.5-6 thousand. i can do half the price for an auto or just buy a shift kit. not sure really. my car has about 121K miles so i don't know if i should buy a new tranny or not

Is there anything wrong with your current tranny? If not i would just get a shift kit or buy a t56 and do a swap with some decent gears

well, my car sometimes jerks really hard when changing into a gear and there's a delay from, say i'm going from park to reverse. there's a delay for about a second and a half and then it shifts into reverse.

i was thinking about buying a shift kit for now and then getting a new tranny. i think the manual swap is out of the question due to cost
