Oil with my spark plug!! HELP

So my car is missing realy bad. I went to Auto Zone and code said cyl #4 is missing. got home and pulled the cap off the spark plug and it was dripping in oil. Is this a valve cover gasket or some serious dammage?

Hopefully just a valve cover gasket. Went thru the same thing this past week myself. Only I tried to fix it myself and made a small problem a very big one.

Typically just a valve cover, make sure you clean it up good, put a nice gasket on it and you should be ok.

how hard is it to change the gasket? just unbolt the valve cover and swap out the gasket and bolt it back up or is there anything special that i should know?

Hey maybe my 4 valve is different but I had a hell of a time getting my driver's-side valve cover off. Literally, it was an all day and an all night project (because I didn't want to scratch the hell out of it.).

Good luck buddy... hopefully it goes easier for you, and that a leaking gasket is all of your troubles.

I took off the valve cover and the gasket looked great. I dont understand how the valve cover gasket will have anything to do with oil leaking in my spark plug. Commen sense tells me its just the seal between the head and the cover. Whats the deal? Can someone explain this to me....

I've heard of double posting... but TRIPLE?! Oh you'd make Turbo so proud.

If oil is getting past the piston ring, you would see oil on your spark plug. Could be a possibility... though not nearly as easy nor affordable a fix as a worn valve cover gasket. lol. Have you done a compression test on the cylinders lately? That's a very good diagnostic tool, that many a mechanic will do before coming to an educated conclusion about things of this nature. Is that what AutoZone did to determine the missing cylinder?

ya my computer had a glitch or something......thats why the triple post.

my check engine light came on and was blinkin at me. they pulled a code that said it was missing.....then i pulled the boot over the spark plug and it was dripping with oil.

I still dont understand how the valve cover gasket has anything to do with the problem

If the actual plug wire has oil on it, it should be the gasket going bad. My 4 valve had a few cylinders do that.

well i went out there and started wrenchin on it. i tried to pull the spark plug and as soon as i put the socket down there, well there is alot of oil in that spark plug hole. when i pulled the socket out there was oil on it all the way up the extension. its obvious that the rings are shot

Welcome to the club. I've been fixin' to get mine replaced since the day I bought the car... insufficient funding for that has kept my plans at bay.

G'luck bro. Hope the car runs good in the meantime...

and LOL @ Turbo's comment. Get out of the 4.6 section you! Lol j/k man.
