1997 Mustang GT 5-speed

Whats up guys, I am younger, I really do not have anyone to ask any questions about my car, I work alot don't really talk to my dad and don't live with him, so I figured I would join a forum and learn about my car, to perform it the best way possible, keep it cleaner and better running, and so I do not get ripped off when I take it in. Well I am sure I the rev limiter is on, my car is sucking up gas alot quicker now for one, could that be the air filter? It makes a loud knock noise when I start it up, I know I need new tires, new struts, new brakes, new rims. It has 112k miles on it. What would you guys suggest I do? Tune it up and get the error code turned off? Other than that the car runs fine, I can tell a performance decrease though. Thank you brothers in advance!

welcome to the site GSS

error code....do u mean check engine light? if so then yes, get it read and find out whats causeing it and fix it.

a tune up couldn't hurt at 112k.......spark plugs, fuel filter, air filer, clean ur wires and coil packs up a little.

Thank you brother, when I say error code I mean REV LIMITER, I know my tires spun horribly a few times do to slick weather, now my friend how much do you think this would run me to get done in a shop, because I know spark plugs being put in takes awhile, I am hurting on time lately, working 53 hours a week and my exercise and training. Thank you in advance friend!

How often does the knocking noise happen? Only on start up?

Spark plugs and wires will run around $250 for labor and parts. I suggest you find 2 hours of spare time and attempt this your self, they arent hard to do on your car. Or do plugs one weekend and then wires the next if your that hard pressed on time.
As far as the knocking goes, we need a little more details on that. It could be a very bad sign.
As far as drinking the gas, I would start with having your diagnostic trouble codes read. Either you have a lead foot or something is wrong somewhere if you think its drinking to much gas. This time of year is bad on the DPFE and if that goes bad your car will drink more gas.

okay man the rev limiter will not throw a code. It is just there to cut fuel off before you go to an unsafe rpm. Do you have a Check Engine Light?

i would say get a JLT intake first, but if u can get mufflers for cheap do that, you'll feel the difference with the CAI instead of exhaust

If you dont have to worry about inspection get an off road h-pipe and flowmaster cat-back exhaust.
