One Nasty Problem (Stalling)

Well today i drove my car for 2 hard hours and my car stalled. This past summer it would do the exact same thing but never took it to get it checked cause its not my dd now that i want to do gears and cams it starts to do it again and i want to fix that problem before i start modding it. do any of you know or have any suggs of why its doing that, it starts back up after 20 or 30 mins , it also sounds like its gasping for air or fuel, and rpms go down to 300 till it dies if i try to start it after stalling it just keeps doing the same thing, its almost like something needs to cool down. please help!!!!!

Sounds like a coil pack issue, or fuel pump/injectors.

for a coil pack, test this

There are too things to test, primary resistance and secondary resistance. To test primary resistance unplug the harness from one of the coil packs. There will be three prongs. The outer two on the coil pack are negative and the one in the center is positive. Connect an ohmeter in between the positive and each negative. The resistance should not exceed 1 ohm.
To test the secondaries, remove the spark plug wires. Connect an ohmeter between two secondary terminals (where the wires go). They must be checked in these pairs though. 7/4, 8/2, 1/6, 3/5 (remember this is a waste spark system). The resistance should not exceed 11.5 Kohms.

its a red optima but i think i need a new one due to the fact that when the rpms are low the volts go down and so do the lights.

what does the batt affect that it stalls, and why does it need to cool down to start back up?

did you check the coil packs as i described? only way to get the A/F is get it on a dyno, or get a wideband A/F gauge. I think that this is a ground problem and starter problem, just because you have to wait for it to cool down for it to fire back up. And the pullies, is what is making the volts gauge go down and the lights dim, not the battery, but going into the winter season i suggest giving it a full charge.
