You might have air in the coolant system.

A loose slipping belt might make it heat up more too.

My belt was so stretched that last Sat at Beech Bend it flew off at the top of the track at 103.45mph (brakes and steering don't work so good when that happens).

I had noticed this summer that while driving 70mph it would heat up, and then sometimes at random cool back down. It would also heat up after 1/4 mile passes. I think the belt was the problem because my alternator guage would move around once in a while too.

I'll know for sure when I put the new belt on tomorrow.

you should start by checking coolant level. sounds like you do have an air pocket, or either your thermostat is gone

have you replaced the thermostat?
also, when you fill it up. let it warm up with the cap off the tank. that will let it burp some of the air out. sometimes squeezing the hose will burp air out also

if its only running that short of time, and getting that hot with snow out. no i think you have an air pocket. bad thermostat, or a bunch of crap in the block. and get some antifreeze in there before you need another block

yeah, i just did the same thing with my 97, and it makes it run so much cooler. My cooling system was so neglected. I drained it all out, put in prestone cleaner for a week, drained that, new coolant, and its still dirty.

Thats with all the flushing of compressed air, and lots of water.

It runs a lot cooler tho now.

But make sure you get that 50/50 antifreeze in there, because if it freezes at like 15 degrees, your water jackets will freeze and crack the block.

what i done was hooked some 5/8 heater hose to my heater hoses so they could hang over the fender, and took the overflow tank off. and the large hose on it. I stuck the water hose in there. and let it run till clear water ran out the heater hoses. then I blew in the hoses, and out came the dirty water from the other hose. and then put the water hose on the heater hoses , i just kept flushing back and forth like that with the water hose. then i cranked the car. and stuck my water hose in the hose from the overflow tank and let it run with the engine runnin, for a few minutes or atleast until the water coming out the heater hoses was pretty warm, then shut off car and back flushed some more.
