1998 cobra with bad motor. help!

My wife just ran her 1998 cobra dry and smoked the engine. I have taken it back and need some advice on whether to go crate long block, rebuild existing, mod or used low mile engine on the rehab. Any advice or product locations would be of great help. Thanks

Thats an extremely broad question. And we need more details on what you mean by " ran dry and smoked the engine".

We have no other information on the car. Mileage, mods, problems etc.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. She ran it low on oil and seized the engine. It had 60k miles on it. The engine was a stock 4.6l cobra.

Have someone tear the block down and find out what's still reuseable...A full 4v crate engiones gonna set deep in the pockets...Salvage what you can off the old motor to save some cash... 4v motors aint cheap...

If you're on a budget, It'd probabaly just be cheaper to buy a used 302 and build it up to make equal power...

with 60Kand it ran dry on oil. did you ever change the oil or check it? well if the motor went at 60k is the body in good condition? if it is then i would get a new motor.

It is a convertible with a straight body. Don't really want to spend more than 4-5k, but would love to do it for less.

If you do the work, you can have a forged assembly and an new iron block for less than 3K. But if you can keep your block do so, its a teskid block, and is very sought after. It can hold amazing power for an aluminum block. SO just bore it over .030" and make a 284 and use forged internals and use your old heads and intake and cams.
