DO you want handling or Drag? Do you want cheap or expensive? Do you want new struts and shocks or not? Tell me these and I will tell you your spring. Or you can go to Stangsuspension.com. they have a great chart with the spring rates of our stock springs and just about every other spring out there, and wheather or not you will need new shock or struts.

While we're talking about it, I have a 1996 Cobra with new lower / upper control arms, and Steeda Drag Springs. Setting the car up for all out drag eventually.

Should I be looking at replacing my shocks and struts also? I'm obviously going for drag, but would also sort of not like to pay the price of an adjustable strut.

I have H&R Race springs. They drop the car between 1.5 to 2 inches in the front and 0 in the back due to Sag in the old springs . But it would be rougly 1.5" below stock. The H&R SS springs are very similar, but a little softer, bigger drop tho. Your looking at a 2 to 2.5" drop in the front and a 2" in the back. That is a very large drop. Your looking at a near no gap at all with 18''s and a very small one with 17" wheels.

For the Drag guy, its not going to make a HUGE change to change your shocks, although with any spring change, its a good idea to match your springs to your struts\shocks. You can get a good set of 5 way adjustable tokico illumina struts\shocks that will do Amazingly.

For the handling guy. Its up to you what you really want. I personally went the upper end route for springs and shocks, but not quite all out since I did not get Coil Overs. Coil overs are the cream of the crop, but since I alread had aftermarket sway bars (coil overs handle best with stock ones) and it was going to cost $500 more all together. I may convert down the road, but that is because I'm a nazi about body roll. I have H&R Race springs with Bilstein HD struts\shocks and Eibach Sway bars.

For companies on all of these things, there are a few things to remember. Eibach, Tokico, and Bilstein are all great companies. H&R is my personal favorite, but the Pro-line kit is good to. I have heard some questions about the quality on them, but alot of people swear by it, so I won't say its crap.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, I have researched suspension endlessly. So I have a decent knowledge base. I can tell you where I learned it all if you like.

Maximum Motorsports web site and e-mails with their techs

StangSuspension.com their articles and their forums

Griggs Racing.com (cool video of a 97 cobra that owns ferrari's)

And other assorted articles I have found.

I forgot about Koni Yellow Shocks\Struts. These are pretty much the best Shocks you can get aside from the Valve adjusted Bilsteins from Maximum Motorsports. And those ones are necessary for a non Coil-Over car. They would be however, slightly overkill for anything less than a set of H&R race or possibly SS springs. You want to make sure your springs match the damper on the shocks.
