Help With Hp Gains

What are the best, easy horsepower gains on a 98 cobra. Throttle body, cold air intake, etc... Would like to keep it smog legal. Do they make a chip that is worthwhile for this? Looking for 20+ HP gains. Thanks

search the forums bro..

they make tuners and chips for your car.

your best/cheapest gain would be nitrous

if its stock and you have about 1500 to drop...i say cai...t/b plenum headers and chip...ive heard the 4v respond great to those small mods...those right there should get about 30 if not more

You aren't going to see ANY horsepower gains, but if you want the biggest gain off the start, get yourself a gear. 4.10s or 4.30s, your choice, but it's going to feel a hell of a lot more like horsepower than anything else you do to it, besides forced induction. If you don't want such a powerful gear, BuyFordRacing.com has the FRPP 3.73 on sale. However, I say 4.10 is fine for daily driving.

You COULD get a throttle body, but I don't really know if it's the most cost effective / useful modification for a Cobra. I know GT owners benefit from these and changing their intakes, but the Cobra stock is actually pretty good. Personally, I wouldn't change it yet.I still run my stock one, and I've heard the Accufab single-blade TB is nice, but it's price is pretty high for whatever gains it provides.

However, if you don't want to dip for a gear that high, you could start with some other "fun" mods. I'd recommend starting with headers and exhaust. Get yourself a set of long tube headers and a cat-back exhaust system with an X or H pipe. However, you said smog legal, so I'm not too sure how you feel on the headers, but the cat-back with a CAI of your choice would be fine. I don't know about smog-legality with headers, but here in Illinois, they really aren't hard at the emissions facility. Don't have a CEL, basically.

You could get an SCT or Diablo (whatever is in your area), but I'd wait on a tune (even if it is from SCT) until you have some more modifications. It won't net you 20+ actual HP, if you want 20+ actual HP get headers, exhaust, and intake. That'll set you nicely.

Good luck.

i would put 4.30s in my daily driven 2V if i were to do it agian. Anyway, smog legal means no headers and no mid pipe.
