Cracked Intake Manifold

Hi everyone, for some time now my car was acting up alot like it was missfiring. Thru this forum I got an answer from Mark8796 that it could be a cracked intake manifold. I checked it out and it was. So I called ford to get the price on a new one and they are trying to sell me a "kit" that comes with upper and lower intake + gaskets for about $550.00. The one on my car now is the plastic kind. So my question is if anyone can tell where I might find a kit for less than an original from ford and since it's plastic should I replace upper and lower or just the upper. Maybe I could put an upgrade on for less than that. Thank You

That was a pretty big problem with those cars, I'm not sure if there was a recall or anything but it might be worth checking out. I know lots of those Mustangs had cracked intakes.

I already asked about the recall, but was told that my car would have been eligible but the program that covered that repair had expired in October of 05 . I called two different dealers and the response was the same. So my only option now is to replace it. Thoe I would like to put in an upgrade, just not sure what would be the best to go with without having to do any major modifications.

I had the same exact problem with my 98' Mustang GT. I went to Kragen and ordered a new one for about $250. But make sure that you dont get another plastic one. The place for the thermostat is metal on the one I have now.

You didnt say what year you had,so Im assuming its a SN95 (duh I know). So go ahead and upgrade to the PI intake. You have to get the new intake with the aluminum crossover. And you will need to get the crossover tapped for the second coolant sensor.

Buy one used plus the kit. I am actually selling one plus PI heads.
