Rear End Replacement

Hi there! I have a 1997 mustang v6 (3.8) and I need a new rear end from rotor to rotor. Could I just pull a complete rear out of a 95-98 GT model and put it on? will my acceleration be faster, or my top end? will it do anything to the engine? I know it tuned to run with the v6 model ( the rpm's are). Will it do anything to the motor? I know I will lose about 1 -2 mpg. But is it possible? I believe that the v6 rear is 7.5 in lenght??? And I believe that the GT is 8.8 in length. Will it fit in there? Please advise. thanks!!!

yes a 8.8 will swap right in from a GT. From the factory it will probably have 3.27 gears. A swap to 3.73's or 4.10's would really wake up the little 6 and not effect gas mileage hardly at all, if ya drive it easy.
