High Mileage

My 97GT has 85,000 miles on it and it is my first car, so more than likely it will have much more miles to see. My only problem is that I have plans of high hp numbers like around 350 but some people told me it would be a waste cause of the high mileage, but I was wondering is their any thing i could change in the motor that would make the high mileage inadequate or should I just start looking for a new motor now (which I don't want to do at all) cause I just put a used motor in it cause the original was locked up, and that motor had 122,000 miles on it

of course there are things you can do to the motor to make it last longer. The best choice would be to rebuild it. But if you can't do the labor yourself, it may be in your best interest to buy an already rebuilt motor to save money. Do you plan on going forced induction?

yeah...you definately need to get forged internals with a motor with that many miles on it with a supercharger.

as long as you stay low boost, you should be fine. But your going to have to buy the KB used as they no longer make them for our cars. Or you can do a PI swap and get a 99-04 KB. Persoonally Modular Powerhouse has some great deals on Mongoose Vortec kits.

keep in mind he wants his motor to last. even with low boost, it won't last that long with that many miles on it keeping it the way it is.

It will if he doesn't get on the gas....but people don't get s/c's to drive it like a 90 year old lady.

I'm going to disagree. If the motor is running fine now. And he stays on top of retluar matience, the motor will last a while actually. I have 124 on mine, and I'm bumping the compression and have nitrous. I see no problems at all.

I'm not saying your wrong, it's just that I had a buddy with a camaro lose an engine after going forced induction. He was below 10 lbs of boost. But the problem may not be from that, it may just be that he owns a chevy LOL. So that's my reasoning behind my post.

Bad tune most likey. THey already have 10.2:1 Compresson or so. So... if its nottuned correctly it will blow up.

If it is tuned correctly with low to moderate boost he should be fine for a long time.

Yeah, you stated it yourself right there. He owns a chevy lol. My car has 152k, and im only doing bolt on's for now ,and gonna have it rebuilt and then go forced induction on a rebuilt motor.
