WOoo more car problems!

Wohoo, more stuff goin wrong with my car 2:

I walked into the garage the other morning and the overwhelming smell of gasoline hit me. "Oh great." Went over to my car and found this:

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4403/img1793xm9.jpg

(I'd hotlink them but they're too big...)

I ran it for a bit, stuck my hand up near the top and I know it's not leaking from where the fuel pump fits in. I don't know how this happened though- we didn't mess with this when we lowered the tank. Must have broken a seal or something though, because it's definitely leaking. (For those saying "wtf is that", it's where the filler goes into the gas tank).

Now, night before I discovered this, I filled the gas tank up all the way... and then some. I forgot I already had a 1/4 tank in it, so I thought the pump was being retarded and kept trying to fill it up with more... d'oh! I don't know if it's related, but that's that.

Bleh. What should I do? :hm:

its most lileky related if u over filled........

I did that once to mine with a fuel additive, shit popped like a fountain on me......

Dry it off the best u can, drive the car around for the bit, and see where ur at........

i'm almost 100% + its an overfilling issue, and not a leak.

Pretty easy to fix. I did one a few days ago. At least you didnt leave a few gallons at the station! I had to leave it there and go back to school then. Fun times! Try to get as little gas as possible in the tank though. Helps to have more than two hands too to get it to line back up whne putting it back up.

1. Jack up the rear of car, and take off the passenger side wheel.
2. Find the circle bracket around the neck, and take the bolt out.
3. Use a 13 MM socket, and drop the straps of the tank.
4. Make sure the Jack was underthere for the last step. :LOL and slowly let it down.
5. If lots of gas, use two jacks, one floor jack, and also the jack that came with the car. And let down the drivers side farthre than the passenger.
6. Lower until the filler neck is out.
7. Carefully take out the grommet. And the put in the new one. The new one will take a little to get in there, but nothing a little pressure from a screw driver couldnt handle.
8. Best to have a buddy help you jack up the tank, while you put in the filler neck.
9. Align the tank the best you can, and then put the straps back on.
10. Put the bolt back in on the bracket, and your good to go!

Part number is:

I sure hope it's an overfilling issue. I've driven it 30 miles since I filled up and it's still past full, so I really overfilled it...
Oh, and matt, when I was replacing my fuel pump, I couldn't get the filler pipe out. It was flared out wider than the hole the filler tube goes through... quite annoying.

Well how would one go about replacing said tank seal if I can't get the filler pipe out of the fender?
Rando, it was $10 for the seal right? $10 in labor at a dealership would get them to pull the car in the garage, but not much else...

U dont get it out of the fender. U just dropp the tank until the neck comes out of the tank. And it was 35 with tax for the seal when i bought it on Thursday.

yeah, i know dude, same thing happened with my car. I still haven't fixed it. No time...I only fill up 1/2 way so I dont spill any fuel. When I turn left I can spill some fuel and smell it as soon as I come to a stop. I think imma fix it this weekend. I have nothing to do...

Well I was driving it around today and it appears to have stopped. So hopefully it's just that I overfilled it and nothing's broken *crosses fingers)
