I just bought a used engine from midwestern distributors that has about 60k miles for $1,000 Im not sure how much it will cost for forged internals.

YOu can build a forged shortblock to handle anything you throw at it for around $2500. Thats if you do it yourself.

according to sean hyland and everyone i called about rebuilding mine, its a lot cheaper just to by a new block rather than rebuilding yours. mustangs unlimited, cj pony parts, and 50 resto all have them for under 300 bucks plus shipping. You wont be able to get yours machined for that.

^ You could do that, but building your own shortblock is much cheaper.

Building an engine is a complicated task and may be above some peoples heads. It also requires a bunch of specialized tools. Degreeing cams can be tricky if you are not detailed oriented. If you have the skills and tools then its the only way to go.

well i want to get some serious power in the future, i've felt a 10 second quarter mile on my 1000gsxr i want to feel something like that in a car to see if its as exciting. However it will take me a few years to come up with the cash for all the fundings of FI and nos and no telling what else
However I want a new strong motor that is capable of that because my car has 150k miles on it, yeh it runs great cause i take super care of it but who knows what type of shit ppl did to it before i got it. So i figure instead of buyin heads and cams n all that stuff and end up blowing the damn thing up I would just invest in getting a strong base from start. (However once i got the motor i'll prolly throw a big ass 100shot on the motor i got and blow it wide open before i swap em out) I bought a haynes manual and read from cover to cover and have learned alot I think i have been buyin a new tool each week to play with stuff. So a motor swap is the way to go, should i look for a crate motor or what? I dont have the tools to put the actual motor down into the car and lift the other one out etc etc, but I could collect all the parts needed for a full swap. Whats the best way to go with a motor swap that will FIT and not need a TON of new shit to work. I have realized from learning these sobs got a million sensors all over the place thats the only part that seems hard is gettin all the sensors and electrical crap runnin right. It aint gonna do me any good If i buy a new motor for 2500 and end up payin 2k to install it I shoulda just rebuilt and forged what I had. So help me out plz , Last thing is, i've seen some crate motors that come with 400hp 400lbs of torque on all motor is that a better way to go? I'd imagine a motor pushin 400hp with some FI would b put me close to that 10second time. And if not I believe I would atleast be better off going with the 4v cobra motor or a 3v new GT motor wouldnt I? Any suggestions and links would b great so I can start on this project I want to have it done by summer. |
