I've got an automatic 98' GT, and I was wondering is there a big difference between manual and automatic.

Manual drive-train loss is about 15%
Automatic drive-train loss is about 20% or so

in really fast cars, the autos are faster but they arent as fun as a 5-6 speed

Yea manual is way better..
I had a 5.0 with a manual and now i have a 2001 mustang gt with a manual tranny. It's the best way to go .

I swapped a few different cars from auto to manual ,(depended apon what was available at the junkyard) and from what i noticed that every time i switched it to stick is seemed faster to me,the probe i switched to stick was a lot faster,my 80 capri had 6 motors in it and it was always faster with a stick,I alternated between a 4 speed and a c4, mustangs are not to bad to switch between the 2 but you should find a donor car or else you will be spending more time at the junkyard getting more missing parts.in the probes case I actually got the whole car from the junkyard for 300 bucks and that conversion was a real pain but worthwile expecially when people tell you it cant be done and you do it and prove them wrong.go stick or go broke!

A well set up auto will spank the manual at the track. Invest in a 3200 stall TQ Convertor, do a JMOD and get a trans cooler. Then your auto will be much more fun to drive.

I also figure its up to what you want to do with it. Going out to play a manual will be more fun. Drag applications you can get shift kits and shit for the auto to make the shift point deadly accurate everytime instead of rellying on your foot work reliablity. So basically i dont think one is better then the other its all personall preference excuse the typos lol

A built auto with a nice stall can spank a 5-speed...Plus like said before the Autos are consistant...

yes i have an auto also and i have fun with it still the only thing about the manual that you can do is rev it up and throw it in gear which me and dad love when people do that because the t5s cost 950 bucks for us to reman for people lol...autos are stronger and you dont have to take the trans out to change the clutch or sencronizers...this guy with a 95 5.0 been talking crap so finally i raced and em and he has a stage 3 clutch in it and i beat em by 2 car links..haha..and hes a good driver..but standards are fun some times just not in traffic or neighbor hoods with stop signs..

If you have an auto just firm up the shifts and you should be somewhat happier with the car...

buy some 4.10 gears and you will get the same speed you would with a manual.
