Gears would be great...

A nice mid-pipe would be great as well...

Or you could change you NON-PI 4.6 to a PI GT with a set of heads off a 99-04 GT...

Long Tube Headers would be nice...

And the list goes on and on...

They should not make any noise if put in properly...

Need some details on your car...

Auto or Manual?

What are your future plans for the car? Forced Induction, Nitrous, Or Naturally Aspirated?

If you are going with Nitrous you can go with either one that you want...

First of all, forget about a CAI. They look pretty, but are a waste of money unless you are moving some serious air flow. They are primarily for cooling the inlet charge . The factory intake can handle just fine. You are not generating enough heat to justify needing a CAI.

I would look at your choice like this. If you want to optimize your factory power, gears are a good choice. Just rememberm that your car will idle a couple hundred RPM's higher constantly, and that will lower your fuel mileage. Not 5mpg lower, but lower nontheless.

If your intentions are to move more air (air and fuel make more power) then I would do the exhaust first.Because you can add the biggest heads and supercharger you want, but that air has to go somewhere. Its a Coke bottle effect. But your factory exhaust can handle the PI upgrade fine. But a better exhaust is a good idea, though not to big or you create back pressure. 2.5 is right for your ride. Your car has 6 g-damn cats on it.so consider a O/R pipe

WORD OF CAUTION- I know several guys who have run x-pipes on 2 chamber Flowmasters and they HATED the sound. X-pipes sound like shit on these. I have a OR-H and 2 chamber Flows, and I constantly get compliments.

i have a xpipe with flows and love it and get compliments.its all in what u like i guess.the x pipe can be a little raspy.with my gears i actually get better mileage around town cause im in 5th gear more and able to use it.but like what was said above you will loose some mpg on the highway maybe just a couple. doing 90 my rpms are at around 2800 with 3.73s

I love the sound on my mustang...O/R Bassani X-Pipe and Flowmaster Cat-back...

A H-Pipe is going to be alot deeper...

You drive in 5th gear often Sonic ? I rarely ever hit 5th around here.To many lights.Even on the interstate im in 4th so I have some passing power.

Im not knocking the x-pipe,just forwarding some opinions. It may depend on what mods you have.

I still stand by avoiding the CAI for now as a first mod.

with 3.73s i can go to 5th at 40-45mph around town if i want.and at highway speeds its got plenty of power to pass in 5th.of course its more fun to pass in 4th on the highway.

I see you live in S.C. ...I always have fun in Myrtle Beach. Thats explains why you can just cruise around in 5th.Lots of open road in S.C. Plus the 3.73's

If you already have 3.73's. and like the MPG's you are getting. I would go with a short throw shifter, so you can slam those gears around faster.
