Problem with finished project

Okay I just finished dropping in a new engine and transmission in my 96 gt. It is all still stock just everything is newer. When I tried to start it up again, it seemed as though the starter wasnt catching the flywheel. It was making a squeeling noise almost as if gears were slipping or something. Now I dont know what to do from here. What do you guys think? Let me know if you need any more info.
