98 Cobra SVT

I think I made up my mind. Last week I was looking at a 91 notchback with a crate GT40 swap, a TKO trans, suspension work and fuel delivery work. The deal was that it was still a 91.

I have found a 98 Cobra SVT Coupe for about $500 over the 91. The Cobra is mostly stock with 87k on the clock. The only exception is a chip and an aftermarket clutch. I do not know what brand the chip is nor the clutch. I drove it and it seems fast. If I do get the Cobra, what are the first couple things that SHOULD be done? I was thinking of changing the suspension to a lower profile coil along with some better shocks/struts.

Any opinions?

What are you looking at getting out of the car?

A Daily Driver or a Strip Car?

I would go with a nice set of eibach sportlines 2inch all the way around...Then I would get a o/r mid-pipe (I prefer x-pipes)...then maybe a cat-back...

I would also look into a set of 3.73 or 4.10 gears fro the rear-end of it...

A C&L CAI Intake would be nice...I say C&L becuase you can keep your stock STB...With most CAI you cant...

That is just a start...Hope it helps ya out...

For now, a driver that I can have fun with. Are the parts on a Cobra that make it much better overall than a GT of the same year? What ratio is in the rear of a Cobra? Same as a GT? What would be the benefits of spending a couple grand more than a GT? I don't know that much about the SVT 4.6 and the GT 4.6. What is a STB? Thanks again.

STB = Strut Tower Brace

The Cobra is a DOHC motor and the GT is a SOHC motor...

The DOHC puts down alot mroe power...

I would go for the cobra myself personally...

I believe the ratio is a 3.27...

Is there any difference in the heads? I saw something about the 96-98 GT with non-PI heads. What about the Cobra? I was looking at a 99 as well, but I beleive the 99 Cobra has IRS.

The 99 CObra does have IRS...

The cobra has 4V Heads...Yours is DOHC

The Non-PI heads is a 2V problem...2V are SOHC

HAHAHAHA, I have found another one with the suspension upgraded already for about the same price so I am between two cars right now. Is there a difference between a 97 and 98 that would make a difference in choice? I know I am gonna get a Cobra, just not what year yet......................

If you have a chance to get one with upgrades already on it, then DO IT! My mustang had, THOUSANDS of mods on it, and I only bought it for $6000, it already had the supercharger, subframes, gauges, short throw shifter, Eibach lowering springs. So if you can get one with mods, DOOOOO IT!

No, there's not really any differences between the 97 and 98 cobras worth mentioning. And definitely go with the modded one, just be sure that the mods were professionally done, otherwise you'll potentially end up paying for their replacement plus the cost of repairing any damage they've done to the car. Good luck and let's see some pics asap (as soon as purchased) lol.

1997 Mustang SVT Cobra coupe. #1590. Rio red exterior, black leather interior, both in great shape. Mach 460 sound & power everything. 97,500 miles and still runs very strong, fast, & reliable. Adult owned & well maintained. Many new parts including FRPP king cobra clutch kit, brakes, sparkplugs, fuel filter, motor mounts, power steering pump, rear main seal etc. All 4 tires are near new. Mods include, Maximum motorsports camber plates, Tokico shocks, H&R lowering springs, Bassani off road x pipe( stock h pipe incluced), Magnaflow mufflers, K&N filter, & Kenwood detachable face. Like I said before the car is in great shape, runs strong, & has no problems at all. I love this car & hate to see it go. The only reason I have to sell it is because I purchased a 2003 Mach 1, so I cant afford them both.
