The big green santa clause truck stopped at the house with a very nice surprise last night. I had no idea that a complete UPR front end would be so light. chomoly K-member, control arms, 14" 175# coil over conversion and steering rack offsets with bolts. Looks like it is time to begin the swap out. I have an aircraft hardware supplier that is open on saturdays, so I will see him for all the attaching bolts.....I mean...I can't just put all that pretty stuff on with old lame ass bolts.

Here Comes Santa

Geez I like the UPR stuff.

I don't know if I should just put it on, or get naked and roll around on the ground with it.

It will be a far sight from butchered.

I will start the teardown today.

It wont be anything like the lift I put on my truck 100,000 miles ago, but it will smooth out the crappy roads I drive on.

I am open to any suggestions from someone who has done a k member before.

no alignment issues just need to get it aligned after working with suspension every time. yeah same kit! costed me like 1000.00. lol the only regret was that i put it on my CC and made me more in debt. other than that its a great kit! kinda sux when you have to modify you struts for the coil overs though... that part sux!

oh and it depends on how many times you have to run to the part store, and if your spindel bolts are frozen. PITA! also the little plate for the coil over tube to slide off takes an hr. so it should only take about 6-8hrs I had to do mine in a freezing garage when the temp varried from -5 - 0 degrees so yeah i had to take a lot of warm p breaks. lol somthing tells me you wount have to worry about that.

No need for warm p breaks, maybe cold beer breaks though.

Thanks for the heads up, all should go well.

Well, It's almost all the way in 2 hours last night. Left ball joint was a major pita to break loose.

Only thing left is to remove steering shaft pinch bolt and remove shaft from rack and pinion. I can't see chit under there. Can someone point me to the pinch bolt.

So about two hours Friday night and six hours Saturday and she is done. Pretty straightforward install, would have been nicer if UPR had included some instructions. Thanks 97, your list came in pretty handy.

Since I had no formal instructions for the k-member or lube for the LCAs assembly, I went ahead and installed zerk fittings on the LCAs. My stock outer tie rod ends were in good shape but lacked zerks so they got replaced as well.

She sits a good bit higher than she did brand new twelve years ago. She will surely need some new rubber to fill up the fenders.

I will do a shade tree alignment today to get her to the shop tommorrow morning so I can see how she drives. May wind up flipping the C/C plates to provide more down travel.

Three hours at the alignment shop this morning. The good news is that most of the guys working there drive mustangs, so they had a blast doing the alignment. The bad news is that my coil overs are pretty close to the inside of the tires. Not rubbing, just a little close. I would like to space out the front wheels about 1/4" and the rears about 1/2". Does anyone make safe spacers? I will look for those next.

Left the alignment shop and went to the exhaust shop. Went with a new (unflattened) x pipe and flowmasters in 2.5" with 3.5" slash cut stainless tips. Man that 32 valve motor sounds sooo sweet with the flowmasters. A little loud...but still sweet.

So now the car starts, drives, sounds and stops perfectly for me. I love the extra travel in the suspension, really smooths out the crappy roads here. Still corners very well too with the fat steeda swaybars. Looks like wheel spacers, taller tires and a nice tune are next on the list.
