02-04 PI Engine Into 98 GT... Mods ?

So I am going for a 02-04 pi engine swap for my 98gt, MY question is when I drop the pi engine into my 98gt when I start lookin for mods am I gonna have to look for mods for the 02-04 4.6gt and not 96-98 4.6gt anymore ??? for example on the stage 1 clutch from spec i was gonna get for my 98gt is just for 96-98 gts, and they also have a specific stage 1 spec clutch for the 02-04 gts. In other words should I jus wait on mods for my new engine? unless of course mods are for 96-04 4.6 gt, then I shouldnt have to worry and go ahead and buy them then jus switch them over to my new PI engine.

well the clutch deal is becasue they had different trannies those years. you just need to know what tranny you have and buy the clutch for that. as for other mods, yeah youll need to buy them for the year engine you put into the car. and ya if its for all the modular motors, dont worry cuz they should interchange

Yeah most parts for the modular motors will swap over...

You have a T-5 tranny do you need to buy the clutch for the T-5 (your year of car)...

Thats one hell of a deal on that engine...

5.0 = t-5

early 4.6 - 01 1/2 = t-45

4.6 + = t3650 + t56

elec. assist reverse. T-45 has problems with reverse. So they revised it, along with syncro's. Much better tranny, in their eyes. some people have their tr3650 still and have no problems... the other 80 % of people say they are shit and ford knew they had a problem so they input a tsb for new parts internally in the trans. Only problem with our t-45 is reverse problems and syncros go quite often.

i think u did a typo in----- " some people have their tr3650 still and have no problems... the other 80 % of people say they are shit and ford knew they had..."----- I think u meant t-45, anyways I think i will get my new pi engine with a t-3650 tranny then, cause you are right about t-45s havin problems with reverse as i do, it dont go in how it should when ur shiftin i gotta shift it hard in R or if i do it smoothly like when i shift it freakin grinds or dont go in at all.

I have allready done the swap in mine. This is what U need to know. Keep the water pump off of your old motor and the pully. the pump is a differnt lenth on the newer motors. If U plan to keep the stock pcm and wiring harness, (stick with coil packs) U will need to swap the timming chain cover to keep the mouting points for them. U will need to drill and tap a hole near the t-stat housing for the coolant temp sensor that goes in that position in your old motor. If U still wish to use a 10.5 clutch, use the flywheel from the old motor, the olny difference between the older one and the newer ones is the bolt pattern and pin pattern for the pressure plate.

I hope that this helps, John C

why, do the 02-04 gt models use a clutch different from a 10.5 ????
