no shit? that sux... i really don't want my tranny to be bad! but yeah, since you rebuild them for a living you would know...right, its only in 4th and 5th gear, BUT only when i'm SLAMMIN the gears, when i ease on the gears, it has NO problem, shifts fine, but when i slam them fast, it grinds, then goes into gear.

how about............not slaming them? lol no well i know that when your really getting on it and slamming gears it could be possible that your letting off the clutch to soon. I know my step dad gets a lil to inthusastic and lifts up his foot befor he gets it into gear. plus it amplifies with a SC. lol but if your hitting themright it could be your syncros. or you could go the expensive route of a rebuild. lol hope this helps

If it only happens in high rpms, youre syncros are not meshing properly. It happens alot in these cars. If you have a TR-3650 Ford has a TSB out for that problem. Upgraded parts. I can email you the TSB if you want, just PM me.

You could always double clutch it, if you wanted to. Might help.

The cost depends on where you bring it.

how fast are you going to be really getting on it and slamming it into 5th? That's a gear for cruising...

If you dont have alot of power or not much gear you may be shifting into 5th in the 1/4.

well when i'm on the interstate trying to get to work, passing as many ppl as i can, i'm usually going to about 80-95mph, 4th allows me to go about 55 thats when the rpms are REALLY getting up there, when i say SLAMMIN the gears, i really mean, just shifting at a fast pace, but i think i am letting out on the clutch to soon.....

i think i know what your talking about. i just installed a short throw shifter and i went to test it out and when i really went to slam it into second it would grind and go into gear. the rpms didnt seem to matter. so then i thought i was either not pushing the clutch in all the way or letting out too soon so i just held the clutch in and slammed it into second and it still did some grinding so its prolly has nothing to do with your clutching. just my .02

phil, did it do it before the short throw? If not.... you might wanna adjust youre throw stops. You might have them unadjusted and could be causing problems with them like this. Adjust them ASAP.

i dont know if it did it before the short throw shifter because i never really tryed to shift that fast. i set the stops just as the directions said but maybe i need to go back and check them. it works fine if i just shift normal its when i try and skip that little "hitch" in neutral when it does it.

i adjusted my stops today but i dont think that was the problem. it seems that its grinding right past neutral when going into the next gear. its kinda hard to explain but if you shift slow you can feel a little "hitch" when gonig through neutral and it seems to grind when i try and shift fast and hard enough to skip this "hitch". i dunno, all i have to do is not shift quite as fast and its fine.
