98gt cold engine knock??

hey all seems the problems never end....got a 98gt with almost 143k on it and after it sits for 5+ hours or overnight when i start it its make a clack clack clack sound for about a min or so and as the engine heats up it goes away....but when im driving and get under rpms the motor sounds like its rattling like a chain smacking....and its not the timing chain i pulled the cover and everything checked out....was just wondering if anyone else had this problem or knows anything thanks

The 4.6 is known for cold knock. It is how the pistons and piston rings are. It is just the way the engine is. Mine is bad when it is under 40 deg. Plus on a high miles engine it is gonna be worse. It doesn't buck or anything does it?

na it doesnt buck but when i drive past cars or other things that give off echoes u can hear it clacking while driving past almost like exhaust manifolds leaking the sound is really starting to piss me off its a nice car but hell its embarassing having it sound like shit on start up

ha ha i feel you man. im pretty laid back and hardly get mad but when my car doesn't run right or sounds rough i want to break someones face in. I would try to just make sure that it isn't an exhaust leak. My buddy had a 4.6 in his explo and it sounded like it had valve knock and it ended up being a bad exhaust gasket.

well i checked the manifolds the seem cool used a stethoscope when it makes the noise and still cant hear it with the stetho....did a compression check 160lbs on all cylinders the thing that bothers me is the rattling sound like metal to metal when im driving.....

Mine sounds like poopoo currently because i have a mismatched exhaust gasket. Definitely could be mistaken for valve issues though.

Rebuild in process....PI Heads P and P'd, Manley valves, Ported PI Intake, 75mm Plenum and TB, 24 Lb injectors, SCT dyno tuned, O/R xpipe, Merit Mufflers.
