does the Brand of gears matter?

Does it matter what BRAND of 4.10's I buy? I am ordering them tomorrow so would I be better off going with the JEGS brand since they are $50.00 cheaper? Or Would I be better off getting the Ford Racing?

Sorry if this was a dumb question. Thank you in advanced people.

i would suggest FRPP sets, but a lot of it has to do with how does the installation.

can't go wrong woth FRPP, Motive or Richmond. the Jegs may seem like a steal at that price, but remember, you get what you pay for. and definitely take it to someone who knows what he's doing for the install...

A lot of people recommend FRPP. I have them on my car and had them installed yesterday. The installer, who works mostly on older mustangs, says Richmond gears are the best.

Ok I will go with the Ford Racing, I was going to take it to a place called Performance Unlimited by me seeing that its the only shop I know of around me and my uncle takes his 01' GT there and has had nothing bad to say about them and he has had quite a bit of work done by them.

Thanx Guys.

What I've heard from everyone is that all the gears EXCEPT the FRPP gears will whine.

I'd talk to someone like Randy's Ring and Pinion and see what they say.

I can say for the most part you are right. I have run almost every gear set on the market from every company, the FRPP gears seem to make less noise. I was told from a local gear head (he build rearends for roush) that the pitch of the teeth on the ring and pinion can determine how much noise they make. He also claimed that the "Ford" gears are the strongest of all that are made for the aftermarket.

the amount of whine has a lot to do with the guy installing them. i have a set of Motive made FRPP's and they don't whine at all...

FRPP are said to whine the least, but I think you need to still try to hunt down the 4.10A gear by Ford if you want the one they actually produced. The other gears Ford sells now were made by Motive.

Many people say Ford whine less than Motive, Richmond, Jegs, and Yukon, but I'm a firm believer it's all in the install. I had them improperly installed at first and they were obnoxious and were even worse with polyurethane bushings with new upper and lower control arms. I had them reinstalled by the guy and they barely make a peep. They're louder than stock, yeah, but it's nothing horrible.

Go with the FRPP made by Ford but the determining factor isn't really who made it, it's who installed it.

-For what it's worth, I went ford FRPP.

tooth pitch is a MAJOR factor. if the pitch isnt right the back lash isnt gonna be right, and the the wear pattern is gonna be wrong.
