Red Line Problems?

my 97 dohc cobra has had problems with power pulsing at higher rpms all fall now and for some time it only revs up to 6200 rpms and noticed that some times my power pulsing is worse and sometimes it is not there at all. today I passed a car and when i got to the gas station up the road my car wouldnt idle. I checked the motor over and nothing looked broke so i went and got a coffee and started the car again and it idled again, when i got out of town i floored it and my car took off and seemed like it was running good again so i checked to see how many rpms it would turn and to my supprise it ran up to 7800 rpms? the car redlines at 7000. how could the car forget to rev limit? later that day it started running crappy again at the higher rpms and bursted my bubble of haveng licked my power pulsing problem. Is this a sure sighn that my ecm is crapping on me? a bigger problem is that my car is supercharged and a new computer will need a tune and there are no tuners in my area that i can find. any recomendations?

as for the tuners just get a SCT x-calibur2 and have them send you the tunes. its easy just tell them all you have and they will send you a tune and just pluger into your car.

please don rev it up to that hgih again. if sp ts only gonna do it once or twice more. that bottem end in those cars is not built for that kind of punishment. even if the rev limiter desnt kickin, you should know better than to keep going. hope you didnt hurt nything

yupp this is true....i have only reved that high once on accendent and never wanted to do it again. oh you got it up to 7800?!?! ouch! i only got mine up to 6900. in mine wich i would assume its same as yours i found out that 6000 RMS is the sweet spot. and the pulsing power is just the cars way of telling you "OUCH YA BASTARD dont rev me to 7800" lol jk

when i first got the car it had 410s and i hit the rev limit once and it was like turning the car off with the key untill the rpms dropped . I rebuilt the trans and rear end and the car sat without a battery for over a month. when I put the car back on the road i noticed the power pulsing starting around 4500,my powerband starts around 4000 and keeks pulling to above 7000 rpms, the 7800 was not intentional because for awhile i could only make it to 6200, thats it! no more rpms, doesnt shut down and it does throw a code if it redlines. sometimes i notice the pulsing a little or not at all but consistantly i notice no more rpms.fuel filter was changed with rear end rebuild and fuel psi is good .what the big problem is that the power pulsing is like someone turning on and off 75hp really fast and it isnt predictable.dont think its the tack because i watch the mph, when i ended up at 125mph in third i looked at the tach and let off immediatly,it did run the best it ever ran that "key cycle" and it was back to the power pulse syndrome the next time i started it up.seems like the car always gives me a taste and keeps me hanging, maybe I have a girl cobra?

no I never got rid of my rev limiter, like i said the car forgot to rev limit???put new plugs and wires on to try to fix this problem also got msd coilpacks but took them off because the car ran worse, lower top rpms and more pulsing ,they do add a little more power on the lower rpms. also i notice a miss here and then at idle but think thats normal.

also checked fmu and regulater on fuel rail and at idle 30 psi took off fuel rail reg hose went to 40 and blew into the fmu hose as hard as i could to simulate boost and got 65 psi of fuel pressure, seems ok. maybe I will take my ecm apart to see if anything is loose or burnt or corroded. once i tried a koeo test with my otc enhanced scan tool and it kame up with a bad rom but I thought it had something to do with the "tune"or i hooked it up wrong or something ,tomorrow i will try to try the test again. the car does drive normally just fine but I can never race it or show it off due to the unpredictabity of it.
