RAI flows more air, but the air is warmer. CAI flows less air but the air is colder. I would also suggest gears, shifter (shift kit or other tranny modd), or exhaust upgrade

in a normal place it doesnt get free cold flowing air, as far as upgrades go dont go with 4.10s your mpgs will dramaticly drop. 3.73 is a nice all around gear. but if your just looking for a little umph for the time being start with the intake and exhaust. thats your bang for the buck right there.

aslo ignition is a pretty inexpensive upgrade that you will see a diff in. i run msd coil packs, 8.5mm plug wires, and ngk iridium plugs. bbk shorty headers are nice i never had a problem with em, off road x pipes high flow cats. acufab 75mm plenum, and maybe a tri ax s/s good stuff!

actually it was like 45 mins be4 urs. but if u have cats, then u dont have an o/r x pipe. i havent seen many ppl getting any gains from changing the coils&wires.
OP: i think u would be best off to start upgrading exhaust stuff. if your going to go headers, LT are the way to go if u can. also UDP wouldnt be too bad unless ur going FI later on

When I got it, the car had Flowmasters already installed. That's one of the main reasons I have stayed away from upgrading them, they are decent, however I'd really like em to be 3 1/2 inch tips and be some nice cat backs, with a little more umph.
So which is better, the Ram or the Cold Air? I am also keeping my gears like they are for now, no need in changing them. |

Full PI Swap, JLT cold air/ram air intake, longtube headers, off-road midpipe, catback, shocks and struts, springs. I know you want to improve the power of your car, but I highly recommend doing the suspension; if you mod the car evenly all around (exterior, power, handling, braking, etc) you will be extremely pleased with the result. So the first two things to invest in is the full PI swap and suspension.
Keep in mind, when workong on the car, do everything right the first time, not half-way. Example being the PI swap: you can do parts of it (intake, cams) and thats great, but let's be honest here: at some point down the line I'm sure it will come up again how you want more power, and I'm sure you will go back and finish the whole PI swap. Just do the whole thing right to begin with, meaning shell out the extra bucks! And you said you wanted to keep your MPG decent? Didn't you say you purchased Cobra wheels? As in, the 17x9" wheels? 9-inches of rubber on the pavement isn't helping your fuel economy haha.

Yea but I'm getting 23-24 MPG right now the way I'm drivin it, even with the extra wide wheels. Besides, some things (i.e. wider wheels) are well worth the drop in MPG.

Oh, I agree, I was just curious. I average between 190-240 miles per tank. Not so good haha, and the 240 was because I drove to Joliet cruisng in 5th lol. Oh man...love the V8!

Well I think for now I have removed the Accufab Throttle Body Combo out, and have changed it to just getting the JLT RAI and now changing my small 2 1/2 inch Flowmasters out for some 3 1/2 inch SLP Loudmouth I Catbacks. I think on my next order after that one I will do the Combo swap.

As far as the exhaust goes, are you getting just catbacks? Is the rest of your exhaust setup stock (headers, midpipe)?

I would highly recommend doing the whole exhaust. Using some longtube headers on these cars frees up a lot of power. Longtube headers, shorty off-road midpipe, then your SLP Loudmouth. I'd go MAC for the headers and midpipe (check out stangmods.com). If you can afford that all, do that absolutely. On top of that a RAI would be great.

The air picked up from inside the fender is colder and more dense. it burns better with the fuel. If you pick up your air from the engine compartment it is going to be much hotter and will not burn as well. thats the same reason you wrap your headers, so the heat is transfered away from the engine and intake system.
