Question

alternator or something else?

so im wondering if my problem is the alt or something else my car has a horrible habbit of wanting to die once in a while becoming more and more prevelent. this doesnt happen slowly it only happens when im sitting idle at a light or something it looks like someone just cut the battery cable and put it back the vol gauge drops off car almost dies and it comes back to normal. im thinking if it was the alternator it would slowly die over time not just out of nowhere volts drop off car almost die and comes back. this happens most of the time while the a/c is on and even more so in situations like today when it was raining and hot so the headlights a/c wipers and radio was on.

Load test the battery.

Have the alternator tested.

Check the connections at the battery, the alternator, and the starter.

To me, this sounds like a shitty connection at the starter. Make sure you disconnect the positive terminal at the battery before messing with the starter connections, as a wrench jammed between a power cable on the starter and the frame or engine block is a very bad thing.

Autozone can check those For you. Maybe a possible intermitten short.

When it does idle is it rough? not sure if they have a check for it but maybe an EGR valve? Not sure about that but worth checking.

Well I think you have a starting point for somthings to check. Also make sure the battery terminals do not have a lot of corrosion on them.
