The infamous tire question!!

okay im in the market for some new rubber. im running goodyear eagle F1 talons. there really nice if your into wet weather racing and okay lateral accel. but i want something for a hard launch and quick deceleration. i really dont mind for lateral accel. as long as i get some launch w/o having full on slicks. the best tire i could seem to find were the nitto t555r's but i dont know anybody who has had them on a stang. preferences?

I have 9" wheels all around and currently am running bald 255 Sumitomo on the front. I'm going cheap since it's only the front tires and the rear have slicks.

Am I correct that 275 is the correct size for a 9" tire? The 255 seem small, in addition to this their profile is much more noticeably lower than the 275s on the rear.

Also to answer your question: Most members here have nothing but praise for how sticky BFG KDW are for wet and dry conditions.

good shit man, ill take a look at them... thanks alot guys. will off sized tires mess with traction or launching at all. like you said you have 275 in the rear and 255 in front...?

Yeah, mainly due to money reasons. I bought the drag radials when I bought my Cobra R. I took the two best tires off the 8" stock Cobra wheels and just hate them put on. Going to throw some 275 on the front since mine are bald / it'll look nicer with a tire that fits the wheel correctly. It'll help fill wheel gap.

I don't think there's any problems at all. The car launches off the rear, the front is along for the ride.

BFG FTW! Even though I have Eagle GT-HR's currently. Loved the BFG's, but I've been meaning to try those Eagle F1's too...

I think 275 is the standard for a 9" rim. I can see the seal with 255s on my 9" and there is zero 'bubbling' as opposed to the drag radials looking like they were born on the wheel (275). Stock 8" wheels on the Cobra came with 245s. 255 is the 'step up' tire and usually very popular since the cheap crap is made in that size, Sumitomo. I don't know of anything that isn't out of this world priced that is a 265.

I think curbing it is a silly mistake, the worst is when there is a massive pothole that you don't see. WHAM. I've split two different rims in half before on my old car. On top of that I hit one that gouged out sidewall and took a chunk out of the lip of the wheel.

Potholes are the worst, no one takes responsibility for them, and they are ridiculously impossible to see at night / in traffic.

It's like that saying, shins are for finding furniture at night. Apply this to wheels and potholes.

Tire rack has 275's as an option but I'm not sure if they'll fit stock rims.
