I want to be a little different, how hard will this be?

If some of you have been helping me on deciding what to do power wise you know that i wanted to buy an mmr shortblock stage 2 heads stage 2 cams and a supercharger. Well at the time the money i had saved up for all this i had to spend to keep my business but now i have it back and am deciding differently.

I want to be different so how hard would it be to turn my 4.6 into a 302 stroker? What kind of parts would i need for a job like this. Could i just bore my engine block i have now or should i just buy mmr's 5.0 stroker engine? The only reason i dont want to just buy a 5.0 block is i would need all new engine parts (heads wouldn'ty be a problem since i was going to buy them anyways).

Can some of you help me on what i would need and what do you guys think of this?

Thanks, Mike

The stroker modulars don't add enough hp/tq to make them worth the extra $$. The 4.6 already has such a long stroke it doesn't help in the least bit. If you really want to be different then go with a Big Bore or a 5.4 2v for the extra Tq. I personally would use the extra money you're going to spend on a Big Bore or 5.4 on supporting mods.

So would i just over bore my stock block or would it be better to buy the mmr street mod 800 and then over bore that block? Because im definately shooting for over 600 rwhp down the road with either a crazy engine setup or a twin turbo.

For the Big bore, you'd need an aluminum block, sleeves, Machine work, and of course the larger over bore pistons and rings. From what I've found out you can easily double the build cost by going Big Bore. 600hp is no way near a crazy build or expectation but and is easily done with common stroke and bore. If you're serious about the build then the Big bore may be your answer for the future planed Horsepower and it is just that much more custom compared to the next guy.

So i could just buy the mmr street mod 800 shortblock and then get the aluminum version and just go from there. What about heads and fuel system and all that, could i just use stage 3 2v heads and an upgraded fuel system?

Okay, 600hp even on a 5.4 is going to require boost of some sort, and that makes a huge difference on how you build this motor. Unless you're gonna built it for E85, if you want it to run on pump gas, you're going to want to keep your compression down, probably in the 8.5-8.1:1 range, which will make it fairly doggy until you actually get some boost put to it.

Being different is nice, but I will warn against it. There's usually a reason that the popular mods are popular, and if you have questions there's a lot more answers to be had.

That being said, if you really wanted to be different, import an Australian 4.0L Turbo inline 6 from the Falcon

It was my buddies and he was making well into the 800's. Low 10sec street car could have been into the 9's if he wanted to change the suspension. Too much fabrication for me...

Too much work... It is a beast but too much. I hope you're ready for all the problems with making huge numbers. I would rather have a bullet proof car at 500rwhp than a troublesome car at 800. I'm making 450 hp and I'm totally happy.

I found this place where i can ship the tranny away and get it built strong as ever. As for the rear end getting a solid rear end, racing differential with a posi.

From everything I've heard the Griggs suspension is just wicked sick....

Every circle I've asked has been hands down griggs if you're serious.

Check this out and tell me....

(From the poster of the video to clarify)
This is a 98 Cobra, which did not have an IRS. It is equiped with the Griggs Racing SLA Open Track/Autocross Front & Rear Suspension system the rear suspension has been upgraded to a Watts Link. These same components can be found at the Griggs Racing website. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Griggs Racing at 707-939-2244.
