$400 for loudness? Sounds about right. A catback exhaust is what you're looking for...
Flowmaster Magnaflow MAC Bassani Pypes etc.... I'm sure there are people here with each of those and others that can help you further. Most catbacks are in the low/mid $300 to mid $400 range; right up your alley. Last edited by NinetySixVert; July 28th, 2008 at 02:54 PM. Reason: info |

True, but he only has $400...L/T headers are a must for the exhaust, but then he would need a new short midpipe. The catback is, or has the potential to be, the loudest part of the exhaust and have the most noticeable sound change. So if he bought a midpipe and catback he would have a better sound (and more performance), but then if he wanted L/T headers later on he would need another new midpipe. But the catback and midpipe will (most likely) cost over $500 together. Your call bud, but if your just looking for the sound, it's mostly all in the catback. Best value too, unless you spent wayyy more and bought headers, a midpipe, and catback together.

Pypes violator catback, or SLP LM catback. Still won't be that loud with out some sort of off road mid pipe tho.

New midpipe and weld in mufflers...no need for a catback if you just want louder

I suppose you could go the muffler route too. But the catback will give you a new, distinct, louder sound (depending on the catback) as well as horsepower gains.

With a full catback you will be going from 2.25" pipes to 2.5" pipes . Not a LOT more flow. I say this because he is looking to stay at 400$. This was he can get a midpipe and mufflers.

For the legal part ... you should be fine with a catted mid pipe. But they run $300+ themselves.
I bought a set of Pypes hi flo cats for $180 at AM. The pacesetter LT's and X pipe was $380 at Stage3. 2 Flowmaster 40's for $100 off the forum classifieds. If you save a little more and shop around you should be able to get all 3 components to your exhaust.
