Cobra's 4-Valve engine tops the GT 2-Valve. My friend had his 97 Cobra's hood open next to my 96 GT and the size of the engine, heads and everything on the Cobra is so much bigger than the GT, hah it made me feel bad.

The 96-98 cobra was rated at 305 hp compared to the 96-98 gt (rating at 215hp.) The cobra has larger heads and 4 camshafts as well as a better intake, larger mass air meter and 24lb injectors compared to the 19lb injectors on the gt. It also has a better brake package (i.e. 2 piston calipers up front with 13" rotors). It is possible to convert your 2 valve gt block to accept 4 valve heads and intake but it would be more beneficial to purchase a new aluminum cobra block and start from there.

96/97 was rated at 215 hp, 98 was rated at 225 hp because of a better ehxaust manifold. Nothing else changed inside the engine, all 3 years had the same cams, pistons, ect.
