post got me thinking....
So stanglifemike's post about the 5.4 2valve got me thinking about my own engine build.
I was planning on boring a 4.6 block .030 over, getting it magnafluxed and cleaned up then adding a forged stroker kit with forged rods and 18.1cc dished pistons. Iv'e already ordered a set of stage II heads with comp cams stage II blower cams and beehive springs. And I have already purchased and recieved a saleen series II roots style supercharger kit with an intercooler. And Iv'e got an extra pulley that will give me 9-11 lbs of boost instead of the stock 6-8 lbs. But you can buy a brand new FRPP 5.4 block and a new forged svt lightning crank for about the same as the block work would cost. So, does anyone know what parts would swap over from a 4.6 motor to a 5.4 motor? I am considering it seriously, because as we all know there is always more power to be had from more displacement.

No on the intake, different deck height. The heads, cams ,piston ,flywheel and oil pump are just a few of the items sharred by the two. When switching to a 5.4 block be aware that the compression will be lower unless you plan to run a smaller cc dished piston. 5.4 are fun they make a little more torque, with a 2 valve head your really not going to see much more for the money. I am only being honest, the added nose weight on the car almost balances out the difference in power (N/A). Building a big bore 4.6 is going to be a better option for the money, power to wieght and power to cubic inch. By the time you build a decent 5.4 (2v) you would be further ahead doing the 4.6 (big bore).

I forgot the intake isnt a direct swap, but i think you can get some adapter plates for the intake to swap it over. But i agree with boomer on the fact that it would be a better idea to build a 4.6

I say find yourself a DOHC 5.4 and then you're set.

The lighter engine can make similar power.
In the land where weight is the #1 enemy I'd say shave it wherever you can and go with an aluminum teksid 4.6 4v. Weight savings are ALWAYS linear in terms of gained performance. You can have a 9 second car that will see a decent gain from losing some weight. Adding power at that level becomes less and less responsive in your timeslips however. The key is efficiency. Getting the most out of the power you make is where its at. Of course it will be a fun car either way. I've heard those 2v 5.4s arent much behind the 4v 5.4s anyway until you reach serious power levels. Good luck |

it's a little late to go to a cobra setup as i have already purchased the heads cams, and supercharger.
But considering i wouldn't be able to use the s/c on the 5.4, i think my mind is made up. Thanks for all the input, I think my direction is clear.

Can't wait to see what you are going to do with your build.
