installation question
I was just wondering how hard it would be to install a new clutch and a new flywheel. They are both sitting in my room right now, I have a spec stage 1 clutch and a spec aluminum lightweight flywheel and i just don't have the money to have somebody put them in. So i was thinking i could do it with some help from a friend. Any tips or advice would be very helpful thanks! also is it really necessary to support the engine if the tranny is out?

It is a good idea to support the engine with a second jack and a block of wood( be careful not to dent the oil pan). The most difficult part is the upper starter bolt, a long extension and patience will be required, you'll have to go thru the front side behind exhaust manifold to get at it. It is a easy job besides that, also a clutch alignment tool will help for reinstallation of the trans. Also leaving the driveshaft in the tail of the trans will save clean up and refilling the trans, only removing it from the differential.
1 remove negative battery terminal 2 set parking brake a block rear tires (safty first ) 3 jack up front of car and support 4 remove h-pipe from exhaust manifolds and cat-back (have a can of pb blast ready as the bolts will be rusted) 5 Remove driveshaft from differential(leave in tailshaft) 6 support trans under crossmember and remove bolts leaving crossmember attatched to trans. 7 remove starter bolt and starter 8 remove bellhousing bolts and dust cover bolts(also disconnect clutch cable from trans) 9 support engine and trans leaving enough angle to slide input shaft from trans off the clutch and pressure plate(4-5inches) 10 remove clutch and pressure plate 11 install new flywheel be sure to torque the bolts with a torque wrench. 12 do the same with the clutch and pressure plate, before torque have clutch alignment tool in place. 13 remove clutch fork and intall new throwout bearing 14 reverse steps 1-9 I made this in a hurry so if I forgot anything sorry but that was quick and off the top of my head... Good luck

I would replace the pilot bearing too.
the bellhousing on my 96 dont come off unless the trany is out. The 2 top bellhousing bolts can come off from underneath. I would also change the rear main seal, its only 20 bucks or so and lastly the throwout bearing. I would do the trany flush at this time too. |

If you have the extra hands they are useful but not needed, using the floor jack eliminates the need to lift. Glad we could help !!!!
