smells like gas

i have a 96 gt with all stock 4.6 with offroad x-pipe, mil eliminator kit from bbk, new egr valve, new fuel filter, new plugs and wires. i was told that the egr valve would probably take care of my spark knock problem but it did not but now when i drive the car it smells really bad like fuel it seems to still be getting decent mileage i just drove it and it got 24 highway so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is the smell of gas coming from the front of the car or back. I had the same problem. The gasket connecting the filler tube to the tank was shot and i heard this isint a rare problem. Check your tank to see if you have any gas running off of it. Prob not the problem but worth checking.

it is not leaking gas anywhere but you can smell it inside the car anytime you take off

you said you changed the fuel filter, i would start there and make sure you don't have a leak. Maybe you got in the car after changing it and tracked some fuel into the interior. when it gets closed up in the car the smell gets alot more powerful.

the bottom line is that if you are smelling fuel inside the car, it is leaking out somewhere or is in the interior of the car.

if you are in the car you can smell it but only if you have the car running and are accelerating but there is absolutly no leaks anywhere i have double checked that i was wondering if there are any vent lines or something that could have fell off because it is relly bad and you can not smell it if the car is not running so it is not in the interior.

I've a 98 GT and my filler neck was rusted and had some holes in it so I've replaced it and no more gas smell.

I kno when I had my streetbike painted last summer, when i got it back it REAKED of gas smell all the time, and acted rich as heck.. all i will say is i went around my butt to get to my elbow to figure out it that the spark plug boots just had a small worn out spot in 2 of them and wuz short fusing and givin off running to rich symptoms (I'm talking shooting foot flames out the exuast, and so i came with the bikes name .. GhostRider)
