Need Advice Please (Motor question)
I got a 96 GT that i had overheating problems and when i went into to tare everything apart and start working on her, i realized their is a scratch that looks like mabe a hairline crack (behind the alternator when u remove it). It's not leaking any fluids or anything but i was wondering whats my best way to go.
A: Try to find a Newer 99+ motor swap (would appreciate any details on anything extra you need to make the swap as painless as possible). B: Find another block and maybe do a rebuild and some upgrades. Really on the fence with this one, tell me what you guys would do. |

I've got a spare 03 block. you can HAVE it. you have to pick it up, or pay for the shipping.

If you don't plan on doing many mods to the motor, get the 99+. But otherwise, I would get a crate motor and go from there. It doesn't make much sense to spend the money twice if you plan to do a lot of mods and will need to rebuild the 99+ motor down the road anyway.

get the 99+ motor, you can use your computer and wiring harness. If you use your wiring harness you will have to use your coil packs and wires, and your fuel rails. The coil pack bracket on the passenger side will not completely work. There are three bolt holes for it but only two in the PI engine. Its not a big deal and if you want it to hold better you can cut the bottom of the bracket off and weld it to itself so it holds stronger. If i think of anything else I ran into i'll let you know. Go to car-parts.com and you can search for an engine, i found one close to my house complete for 1500. I think you might also have to use your alternator as the plug may be different but theres a good chance that your new engine wont come with one anyway.
